At a rain-soaked venue in Dalziel Park, a brace from defender Oliver Hynd supplemented goals from Chris Condy and Aiden McCallion to deliver a well-earned three points.
There were five changes to the young side from Friday evening’s Scottish Youth Cup triumph as assistant coach Liam Ross welcomed Arran Kerr, Connor Campbell, Lewis Stewart, Kyle Glasgow and McCallion back into the starting lineup.
As would define the first half, the away side were on the front foot from the outset as Glasgow blasted just wide after working a neat opening on his favoured left side on the edge of the penalty area.
It would prove the precursor to Rangers’ opener just 90 seconds later as Alexander Smith collected possession on the left-hand side and drilled a delicious ball across the face of goal for Condy to guide home at the far post.
Down the opposite end and Rydnn McGuire was called into action for the first time when he denied the visitors with a sprawling save.
Condy then went close again when he swept goalwards after a stabbed pass inside, before Zebedee Lawson jinked inside from the right-hand side and directed an effort straight down the throat of the Motherwell goalkeeper.
It was one-way traffic in the opening 45 minutes and Ross’ side were rewarded with a second goal of the evening seven minutes before the interval.
After a foul on the left-hand side, Smith assumed free-kick duties and floated a searching delivery towards the back post, where Hynd rose highest to plant a leaping header into the far corner.
Proceedings got even better for the away side as a third of a rampant first half arrived on the stroke of the interval.
A gorgeous move initiated by Stewart on the left-hand side saw the winger find Glasgow, whose crisp lay-off to McCallion on the edge of the penalty area was thundered into the bottom corner by the midfielder.
Rangers had a spring in their step, and the half-time whistle didn’t halt their momentum as, within two minutes of the restart, Stewart teed up Condy following another weaving run before the young forward was denied his second of the contest by the hosts’ goalkeeper.
Stewart, so impressive off the left-hand side, was perhaps guilty of snatching at his finish ten minutes later after he done well to check back onto his favoured right side, lifting an effort wide of the far post.
The away side were aggressive, hunting possession high up the pitch, and they were almost rewarded when Glasgow intercepted a pass and struck a low, driven effort towards goal, but it didn’t truly contain enough purchase to trouble the goalkeeper.
However, a fourth of the evening arrived for the visitors with 11 minutes of normal time remaining.
In similar vein to the set-piece strike in the opening 45 minutes, Hynd found himself unmarked at the far post from McCallion’s deep inswinging corner and planted an unerring volley into the ground and beyond the Motherwell goalkeeper.
The clean sheet did prove elusive for the away side as Motherwell grabbed a consolation with three minutes remaining before the hosts were reduced to ten men in a frantic end to the contest.
It mattered little, though, as the young Gers could reflect on an excellent display that makes it three wins from four in their CAS Elite Under-19 League campaign.
