The Gers got off to the perfect start on the day as Libby Bance was on hand to score in the opening minutes to break the deadlock.
A Sarah Ewens double saw the Light Blues go in at the break three goals to the good before a special moment for Jane Ross was to arrive, with the striker marking her return to the pitch with a goal with her first touch of the ball.
Rio Hardy was on hand to slide in a fifth towards the end to round to off a good day’s work for the visitors.
Head coach Jo Potter made four changes to the team from the last time out against Montrose a fortnight ago, with Michelle Colson, Chelsea Cornet, Lizzie Arnot and Sarah Ewens coming into the team.
Rangers almost got off to the dream start in East Kilbride. Rio Hardy made a dart down the left side after curving her run, she looked for Sarah Ewens who was arriving inside the area but the delivery was just out of reach of the forward.
The Gers took the lead just moments later and it was Libby Bance who broke the deadlock for the away side. Mia McAulay did well down the right side as she cut the ball back for Chelsea Cornet, her first effort was well kept out by Emily Mutch before the Brighton loanee reacted first to fire home the rebound from close range.
After a period of dominant possession without any clear-cut chances, Rangers doubled their lead with their next opportunity. Lizzie Arnot was played in behind the Motherwell backline by Kirsty Maclean. The winger clipped the ball into the box and it was met by the head of Ewens who nodded the ball home to add a second after a fast start at K-Park.
Ewens was on hand to fire home another just minutes later as Rangers made it three. A long ball over the top by Michelle Colson was latched onto by the forward, the goalkeeper hesitated in coming off her line as the forward raced through and smashed the ball in at the near post.
Hardy had a chance to make it four right on the 20-minute mark. Maclean clipped a superb ball over the top of the Well backline which was met by the English striker, her first touch was excellent before she tried to tap it through the legs of Mutch, but the keeper managed to narrow the angle and make the stop.
Bance was next to try her luck as she looked for her second of the contest. A clever interchange on the left flank saw the ball work its way inside to the midfielder, her shot was well struck and heading for the far corner but Mutch did well to get across and make the save.
The away side continued to dominate as the first half pressure was relentless. Mia McAulay was next to try her luck as she cut inside from the right channel, but her shot found the side netting at the near post.
Ewens went in search of her hat-trick as the Gers continued to probe to go further in front. A ricochet on the edge of the area fell to Tessel Middag, her effort on her left side was blocked before it fell to the forward in the box, but her shot on the half volley off balance landed in the hands of Mutch.
Rangers looked to start the second half as they did the first. The Light Blues came out the traps on the front foot once again as they looked to add to their three goal advantage. Hardy was played in behind by Bance, but the striker scuffed her shot which allowed the covering Chelsie Watson to clear any danger.
Middag had a chance at the far post to get herself on the scoresheet for the second match running. Arnot sent a set-piece delivery into the area which was met by the head of Colson. Her effort looped into the air before the midfielder was left unmarked, but her header found the roof of the net at the angle.
Hardy and Maclean combined as Rangers were still firmly on top as the game approached the hour-mark. The striker made a darting run down the right side as she cut the ball back to the arriving midfielder on the edge of the box, she opted against the initial shot before her left footed effort was well blocked.
McAulay went close to finding the target as the Gers ramped up the intensity. The youngster cut inside from the left wing and fired a strike which was sneaking in at the near post, but Mutch did well to turn the effort behind.
There was a special moment with just over 20 minutes to play as Jane Ross made her return to the pitch after long spell out with a knee injury. The striker stepping foot on the pitch for the first time in 508 days having sustained the injury in a pre-season friendly against Spartans in July 2022.
The day got even better for the forward as she marked her return with a goal with her first touch of the ball. A pass was deflected into the path of the 34-year-old and in typical fashion she found the far corner from close range to add Rangers’ fourth of the afternoon as she marked her big day in style.
The Gers went on to see the match out with comfort on an afternoon were they were rarely threatened as Rio Hardy was on hand to found off the scoring towards the end. Substitute Megan Bell advanced down the channel before cutting the ball across for the striker to slide the ball home to fire in a fifth.
