Alongside Wikinson’s treble was a spot-kick from Rio Hardy and braces from Camille Lafaix and Kirsty Howat as Rangers produced a scintillating performance in Lanarkshire.
It was the perfect tune-up for next week’s Sky Sports Cup final as Jo Potter’s side square off against Hibernian, themselves victors over Glasgow City earlier in the day to move to the summit of the league table, just seven miles down the road at Fir Park.
Jenna Fife returned between the posts for the Light Blues from last weekend’s Scottish Cup success over Spartans, while Lafaix, who sprung from the substitutes bench to crack open the contest, was given the nod from the off.
The spectators inside the secluded K-Park were still taking to their seats when Rangers, who had taken 68 minutes to break the deadlock last time out, opened their account for the afternoon.
The visitors had their opponents hemmed in when Chelsea Cornet lifted her head and found Wilkinson on the right-hand side of the penalty box. The angle appeared acute for the English forward, but she done well to dig out an effort and, with the assistance of the Motherwell goalkeeper, the ball flew in at the near post.
Rangers certainly had the early impetus and a delicious delivery from Brogan Hay was met by Wilkinson who spurned her header wide of the target.
There were cries for a Motherwell spot-kick moments before when Fife careered out of her penalty area to meet a loose ball over the top, but the referee wasn’t interested in the appeals from the home side and play continued.
Tessel Middag, an unlikely source of goals, was next to test her luck on 15 minutes when she connected sweetly with a left-footed volley before Motherwell were able to scramble the bouncing ball clear at the feet of Rebecca Cameron’s goal.
However, they didn’t have to wait too long to double their advantage as on, 28 minutes, Lafaix continued her purple patch infront of goal.
It was all about Lizzie Arnot on the left byline as the winger slalomed clear and picked out the American in the penalty area who swept a thunderous effort in off the underside of the crossbar.
Six minutes later, the 23-year-old had her second of the first half, confidently finishing off a sumptuous pass beyond the Motherwell defence from Kathy Hill with only the goalkeeper to beat.
The half-time whistle couldn’t come quickly enough for the home side given the relentless waves of attack from Potter’s charges.
But their misery was compounded three minutes prior to the interval when the Light Blues sprung quickly on the break from Fife.
The visitors had Wilkinson, Howat and Arnot in attack, with the latter showing tremendous skill to evade her marker and tee up Howat who lashed an unstoppable low finish beyond Cameron.
Nic Docherty tested her luck before the sound of the referee’s half-time whistle as Rangers kept their foot to the pedal.
Such was the commanding position that the Light Blues found themselves in that Potter turned to her bench at half-time and introduced Laura Berry, who enjoyed a productive loan spell at K-Park in the first half of the campaign, and Liv McLoughlin.
And Rangers picked up exactly where they left off in the opening period, stretching their advantage five minutes after the restart.
The ball initially broke to Lafaix on the left-hand side of the penalty area who centred for Wilkinson. The forward was unable to open her body up to make a connection with the ball, but she was alive when Middag strode onto the loose ball at the far post and thundered a low, driven effort that Wilkinson diverted home from close-range.
Motherwell were under the cosh, and Rangers didn’t quell any hopes that they would let-up as five soon became six when Howat’s delivery from the left-hand side arced over a stranded Cameron and into the Motherwell goal.
It was seven heaven for the Light Blues on the hour-mark; the slickness of the move underlining the away side’s supreme confidence.
A slick passing move allowed Howat to wiggle free inside the danger area, unselfishly squaring the ball on a plate for Wilkinson to seal her hat-trick with a composed finish into the bottom corner.
Substitute Hardy had the ball in the net from a Middag effort before the linesman raised his offside flag on the far side to curb the forward’s celebrations.
However, she wasn’t to be denied in the closing stages as she profited from a foul on Arnot inside the penalty area, striding forward from 12 yards to send a confident penalty into the corner to cap off Rangers’ scoring.
