The Gers fought back after losing a goal inside the first 25 seconds to dominate large spells of the game with a Josh McPake double securing all three points.
It was a difficult start to the match for the young Gers as they were early on.
From kick-off the ball was played back to Kyle McClelland who sent the ball to goalkeeper Kieran Wright, but his kick fell into the path of Lewis Mansell who drilled a low effort into the back of the net.
Rangers came close to an equaliser on the 14th minute as Danny Finlayson’s cross from the right evaded Kai Kennedy in the box but met James Maxwell. The left-back took a touch before firing a shot towards goal but it was saved well by Partick goalkeeper Jamie Sneddon.
Kai Kennedy came close with free-kick from 25 yards out as he curled a right-footed effort towards goal but it dipped just over the bar, before Kennedy saw another shot go just wide after good build-up play from James Maxwell.
Josh McPake was next to have a go for the young Gers as they searched for a road back into the game. The forward did well to pick up on a loose ball from Partick Thistle and found himself in space to try a shot from outside the box but it curled just wide of the post.
On the 38th minute Kennedy was again causing problems for the home side as he managed to get a shot away on the edge of the box but it was just inches wide of the target, while Josh McPake saw an effort blocked by the Partick defence just before the break.
The Gers started the second-half the way the ended the first as Graeme Murty’s side pushed for an equaliser. Danny Finlayson glanced a header wide from a Kai Kennedy cross before Josh McPake saw a shot from an angle saved by Jamie Sneddon.
The pressure kept coming from Rangers as a short corner on the 65th minute resulted in Ciaran Dickson cutting the ball back to Josh McPake but he dragged his shot just wide of the goal.
Jamie Sneddon denied the Gers that goal on the 69th minute Ciaran Dickson found Danny Finlayson in the box but his low shot was blocked by the feet of Jamie Sneddon.
Rangers deservedly got the equaliser on the 77th minute as James Maxwell crossed a ball into the feet of Joao Balde. Balde managed to touch the ball on to McPake who fired a powerful shot beyond Jamie Sneddon.
It was McPake again who got the Gers in front with five minutes remaining as Ben Williamson picked him out in the box and the striker drilled an effort beyond Sneddon and secured the three points for Rangers.
