First half goals from Kayla McCoy and Brogan Hay gave the Light Blues a positive lead at the end of the first 45, before Chelsea Cornet, Lizzie Arnot, Lisa Martinez, and Dina Orschamann netted another four in the second half.
It was a chilly autumnal evening in Springburn tonight as the Light Blues returned to league action following their international break away.
Nicola Docherty, Lisa Martinez, Tessel Middag, and Rachel McLauchlan were the defending backline, with Victoria Esson stood behind them between the posts.
Kirsty Maclean was joined in midfield by Chelsea Cornet and Jenny Danielsson, with Brogan Hay and Kayla McCoy supplementing Lizzie Arnot up front.
Before the kick-off, a minute’s silence was held to remember Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II who sadly passed away last week at the age of 96.
As expected, the match began with intensity as the Gers looked to make an impact in the early moments of the kick-off.
Rangers carried pace into the Thistle final third with a clear desire to gain the early goal, but the ball was just unlucky to see the back of the net.
Arnot created the first real threat of the game after she whipped in a dangerous delivery into the box, but the ball was unable to link up with any blue jerseys.
The Light Blues built on from the early momentum to create further angst for the hosts backline. Arnot made a sensational run down the right side and made an angled switch to play the ball to an on running Cornet on the edge of box, but the ball agonisingly rattled off the post.
At the other end of the park, Thistle began to create some threatening passages of play in the Rangers half, but the defensive backline did well to intercept and redirect the danger.
Thomson’s side reacted quickly to the threats presented by Thistle and pushed towards the hosts goal, and it was McCoy who was on hand to supply the first of the evening. The versatile striker danced past several defenders from the left flank towards the back post and found some space to roll the ball past Ramsay and break the deadlock.
Less than a minute later, Hay doubled the lead for Thomson’s side after she sent a close-ranged effort from within the box. Arnot swung in a deadly cross to from the left side to link up with the Light Blue between the two posts where she calmly slotted it away.
As the two side’s returned for the second half, the Gers carried their momentum straight from the referee’s whistle as they looked hungry to advance their lead further.
Danielsson looked dangerous in the midfield after she floated the ball over the heads of the defending hosts to fall to the feet of Cornet running through on goal. The midfielder took a deft first touch to slot the ball beyond Ramsay to give the squad a positive start to the second 45.
The squad built from this positive early second half momentum with Middag and Arnot also linking up well to secure the squad’s fourth of the night. Middag made a superb switch from the right side to link up with an on-running Arnot who was advancing into the Thistle box, the striker tipped the ball over the head of the keeper for the ball to roll into the net for the fourth time of the night.
Rangers didn’t seem to dwindle in energy following their dominant lead as Martinez put the ball in the back of the net from a set piece. Sub, Orschmann, swung in a threatening corner to meet the head of the defender between the posts, where she calmly sent an effort into the bottom right of the goal to gain her first goal of the season.
Unsurprisingly, Orschmann was again amongst the action after she netted the sixth goal of the night. In similar fashion to Arnot’s goal, the German found some space with the ball to the left of the box and dinked it over the head of the keeper to give her side the sixth and final of the night.
