A first half Sam Kerr doubled sandwiched by a Kirsty Howat near post finish put the Light Blues in control at half time as they dominated for long spells in Glasgow.
A special moment was to arrive shortly into the second half as midfielder Kerr headed home a hat trick before Kirsty Maclean added a third late on as the Gers made a winning return to action after the international break.
Malky Thomson made four changes to his side from the last time out in the SWPL a fortnight ago, with Maddie Nolf, Tessel Middag, Jenny Danielsson and Jodi McLeary all coming into the team.
Rangers started lively and dominated possession in the opening stages in Glasgow. A clever interchange between Jenny Danielsson and Kirsty Howat saw the striker register the first effort of the contest but it sailed wide of the left hand post.
An effort from distance by Rachel McLauchlan was to follow just moments after as Ramsay in the Thistle goal was tested for the first time as the away side ramped up the early pressure.
The Light Blues went close just moments later through their captain Kathryn Hill. The skipper got on the end of a Tessel Middag corner kick delivery and her header was goal bound but for an intervention on the line by a combination of the Thistle defence and goalkeeper to scramble it out.
The chances kept on coming for the Gers as Sam Kerr was next to go close. Full-back McLauchlan carried the ball well down the right channel and managed to pick out the arriving midfielder on the penalty spot but her low effort was denied by Khym Ramsay.
The opening goal was to arrive just short of the quarter hour mark at Petershill. A clever piece of play initially involving Danielsson on the edge of the area saw Kerr take the pass from striker Howat in her stride before curling the ball into the bottom corner with a smart finish to give the visitors a deserved lead.
Rangers were in the ascendancy as they looked to stretch their lead further in Glasgow. Defender Maddie Nolf played an expert through ball which Jodi McLeary took in her stride, racing through on goal she opted to use Howat in a better position having been caught up by Leah Robinson in the Thistle defence but her effort was blocked.
The second goal was to follow just shortly after as the Gers made their early dominance count by doubling their lead. Danielsson carried the ball charging through midfield before using McLeary on the right channel.
The winger picked out Howat inside the area with her volleyed effort at the front post enough to beat Ramsay in the Thistle goal.Immediately after kick off two became three as Rangers were well on top in the contest on the 25 minute mark.
McLaughlan sent a long through ball into the path of Kerr who was continuously making runs from deep and getting into dangerous areas. All on her own she composed herself to roll the ball home and double her goal tally for the day and add a third.
The Gers were looking for more before the break and it almost arrived for McLauchlan after some good work from Nic Docherty on her own channel. Carrying the ball down the flank she looked for her fellow full-back but the shot was well headed over her own bar by Demi Falconer and behind.
The Light Blues started the second half in the exact same fashion as they looked to stretch their lead even further. Substitute Chelsea Cornet was involved in the action straight away and almost provided the assist for the fourth.
Her through ball was latched onto by Howat but the striker’s looping effort sailed over the crossbar.Another was to follow and a special moment arrived for Sam Kerr who headed home her third of the afternoon to claim a hat-trick on the day.
Some clever work down the left channel involving several players saw Docherty’s deflected cross land on the head of the midfielder who cushioned the ball over the line to add a fourth for the Gers.
Youngsters Laura Berry and Mia McAulay were introduced by Malky Thomson as the Light Blues continued to dominate at Petershill.
Keeping safe possession the away side were comfortable as they went in search of more goals.Partick went close to getting on the scoresheet themselves as an opportunity presented itself for Imogen Longcake, the forward found herself in a promising position but her effort was blocked well by Middag on the cover as the game entered the final minutes at Petershill.
Substitute Kirsty Maclean added a fifth for the Gers late on to round off an impressive display at Petershill. McLauchlan was heavily involved again down the right channel as she pulled the ball back to the midfielder who fired past Ramsay late on to round off the scoring.
