Report: Preseason Win for Rangers Over Hamilton

RANGERS beat Hamilton 4-0 this evening as Malky Thomson’s side continued preparations ahead of the start of the 2021/22 season.

Jodi McLeary, Zoe Ness, Lizzie Arnot and Jane Ross were all on the scoresheet as the Light Blues got some valuable minutes under their belt.

Four Academy players started the match for Malky Thomson’s side with Hannah Jordan, Jodie McLeary, Emma Watson and Kirsty Maclean all named in the starting XI.

Gers started brightly with Jodi McLeary seeing a shot bounce back off the crossbar before being cleared by Hamilton after only five minutes.

The youngster did get a goal in the 15th minute as she drove into the box before slotting a low shot beyond the goalkeeper.

Malky Thomson’s side were pushing for a second goal as Brogan Hay saw a right-footed shot hit the crossbar before McLeary saw an effort drift just over the Hamilton goal.

Josi Giard had a chance for the visitors as she tried to loop an effort over Megan Cunningham in the Rangers goal but it was just high of the target.

Rangers made four changes at the break with Jodie McLeary, Emma Watson, Kirsty Maclean and Hannah Jordan being replaced by Sam Kerr, Chelsea Cornet, Lizzie Arnot and Jane Ross.

Ross was almost on the scoresheet instantly in the second-half as she touched a shot just wide of the post.

The Light Blues were piling on the pressure as Rachel McLauchlan delivered a dangerous ball into the box which was headed over by Lizzie Arnot.

Hamilton goalkeeper Sarah Rhind produced some good saves as she denied Brogan Hay, Jane Ross and Lizzie Arnot in quick succession as Gers searched for that second goal.

It did come just after the hour mark as Zoe Ness slotted low beyond Rhind to double Gers’ advantage.

With 78 minutes on the clock, Brogan Hay picked out Sam Kerr in the box with an inviting cross but it was headed just wide by the midfielder.

Rangers added a third with 10 minutes to go as Kerr drove to the byline before cutting the ball back to Lizzie Arnot with the Scotland international making no mistake in drilling an effort beyond Rhind.

Summer signing Jane Ross rounded off the scoring late in the game as Arnot turned provider to pick out the striker with a cross and she headed beyond the goalkeeper to make it 4-0.
