From start to finish, Gers always looked the most likely, but they couldn’t make their good play count with both sides taking away a share of the spoils.
Boss Malky Thomson named just one change for this one from the side which drew 1-1 at Glasgow City last weekend with Nicola Docherty coming in for Maddy Nolf.
On what was an unseasonably mild, evening at Broadwood in front of a superb crowd, it was Gers who began well on top.
Super midfield play from Chelsea Cornet saw her evade a number of tackles before her long-range effort was well held by Pamela Tajonar in the opposition goal.
Kayla McCoy was close to profiting from a Tajonar misjudgement on a cross-ball, but Celtic managed to clear the danger.
At the other end, the visitors screamed for a red card when Victoria Esson raced from her goal to seemingly bring down Clarissa Larisey 20-yards from goal. The opinion of the referee was yellow – however TV replays showed there to be no contact, and the Gers goalkeeper was unfortunate to have been carded at all.
Brogan Hay produced a moment of magic to set up Jenny Danielsson, but Celtic got bodies around the ball to deny her the opener as she struck the ball on the penalty spot.
Nicola Docherty then brought out a fine save from Tajonar with a dipping effort from fully 40-yards as half-time approached.
The second half began in much the same fashion, with Tajonar denying Hay with a good save when she was set up by superb work from McCoy down the right.
Esson held on well to a decent drive from distance from Lucy Ashworth-Clifford, while likewise, Tajonar got down well to deny Chelsea Cornet from the edge of the box.
Tess Middag was then incredibly unlucky to see a 25-yard free-kick from out on the left crash off the underside of the bar, while Hannah Davison ought to have finished at the back post when she met a Middag set-piece from out on the right.
Gers continued to push, and sub Kirsty Howat’s effort wasn’t held by Tajonar, but the goalkeeper recovered to hold Middag’s follow-up.
Docherty again brought a decent stop out of the ‘keeper from distance as time ticked down, while deep into stoppage time, Esson made her first big save of the game, tipping an Olivia Fergusson header from a corner round the post as the other half of the Old Firm looked to steal the points.
