Laura Berry stole the headlines as she netted five of her own on the afternoon, adding to goals from Jodi McLeary, Katie Wilkinson, May Cruft and braces from both Kim Shin Ji and Mia McAulay.
It was a fine afternoon's work for the Gers who also welcomed Leah Eddie back onto the pitch for the first time this campaign following a lengthy injury lay-off.
Crichton named four changes to her side from last weekend’s tussle with Glasgow City, handing goalkeeper Telma Ivarsdottir and Quinty Sabajo their first starts of the campaign.
St. Johnstone’s resistance lasted less than 90 seconds as Rangers broke the deadlock when Shin Ji drifted unmarked into the penalty area to side foot McLeary’s delivery home from close-range.
Soon it was two as, just two minutes later, McAulay picked out the ball in space at the corner of the danger area and curled beyond Roberta-Leigh Cochran.
The goals continued to rein down in the opening exchanges as Berry netted her first of the afternoon – and the home side’s third – on five minutes when she tapped home from point-blank range after McLeary’s low cross from the right-hand side skidded under the diving Cochran.
Indeed, the young forward was certainly in the mood from the get-go, doubling her tally nine minutes later when she profited from a break of the ball thanks to Shin Ji’s persistence and dispatched a cool finish into the bottom corner with only the goalkeeper to beat.
Her hat-trick was wrapped up inside half an hour as the impressive Shin Ji turned architect once again when she fed a short pass into the teenager whose touch and finish was both cultured and emphatic.
Sandwiched between those efforts was a second of the first half for McAulay, who switched sides on this occasion to shimmy inside and rocket a left-footed effort beyond the outstretched Cochran from 20 yards out.
By the half hour mark the scoreline read six in Rangers’ favour, and it was soon extended when McLeary got in on the act when she attacked the six-yard area to tap home from Arnot’s low delivery.
The hosts had a seventh and eighth of the contest before the half-time interval as May Cruft marked her first League Cup goal with a fine finish before Shin Ji added her second goal of the contest when she traded passes with Berry and slid a delightful finish into the bottom corner.
It was all she wrote for both Shin Ji and Kathy Hill as the duo were replaced by Eilidh Austin and Alice Griffiths at the interval.
Berry’s fourth of the afternoon arrived just moments into the second period as she sprung the offside trap once again to latch onto McAulay’s slide rule pass, rounding the onrushing Cochran before tapping into an unguarded net.
St. Johnstone would have been grateful for the reprieve either side of the hour-mark as the hosts took their foot off the gas slightly.
In the meantime, both Wilkinson and Nicola Docherty entered the fray, with the former adding to the scoreline on 73 minutes when she showed tremendous persistence to bundle her way through a crowd of bodies before dispatching high into the roof of the net.
There was still time for Rangers to add a 12th goal as Berry netted her fifth when she proved the beneficiary of a slaloming move from Cruft to release the forward who made no mistake in slamming low into the bottom corner.
