The forward started where she left off on her four-goal opening day to head home a Lizzie Arnot delivery inside two minutes before she added to her tally midway through the first half, with Chelsea Cornet making it three before the break.
The Gers dominated throughout in the second 45 minutes with Wilkinson on hand to smash home her hat-trick and seventh goal in a Rangers jersey as she sent them to another three points at the start of the new campaign.
Head coach Jo Potter named two changes to the side that ran out emphatic 11-0 winners over Aberdeen on the opening day. Laura Rafferty, who appeared for 45 minutes from bench last weekend made her first start for the club, with Brogan Hay also coming into the team having missed the trip top the North East seven days ago.
The Gers started where they left off on the opening day as they took the lead inside two minutes in Cumbernauld. The combination of Lizzie Arnot and Katie Wilkinson were at it again with the former delivering a left footed cross into the box which was met by the forward to head home her first Broadwood goal to give the Light Blues the perfect start.
Following a spell of few chances for the next five minutes, there was a long delay in the game due to a nasty head collision. Laura Rafferty on her first start for the club clashed heads with Thistle’s Courtney Stewart with the Gers defender having to be replaced for Tessel Middag.
The match got back underway as the hosts looked to get back in the groove again and build on their positive start. Wilkinson was again involved as she picked up a low Arnot cross, she opted against using Brogan Hay on the far side before her deflected effort eventually landed into the hands of goalkeeper Jennifer Currie as Liv McLoughlin closely challenged.
The English forward was constantly making things happen for the Gers. This time holding the ball up well to spin away from Shona Cowan, she used Hay to her right who tried her luck to try beat Currie at the near post, but the shot stopper was equal to the effort to keep it out.
Rio Hardy looked to continue on from last week as she got involved in the play. She picked the ball up from the edge of the area and worked it onto her left foot, but a brave block from Clare Docherty with her head stopped the effort from threatening the goal.
Thistle had their first effort of the game as they looked to level up proceedings. Caley Gibb latched onto a loose ball into the Rangers half before trying an effort on her left side, but it flashed over the top of Victoria Esson’s crossbar leaving her untroubled.
The Light Blues went agonisingly close to doubling their lead. Captain Nicola Docherty got in down the left side and drilled a ball across the box, but the low delivery was just beyond the reach of Hardy to slide in a second.
The Gers did manage to give themselves breathing space in the match as they eventually doubled their lead. Hay’s cross which originally seeked out McLoughlin broke for Wilkinson as she smashed home the ball into the top left corner from close range to make it two on the day as she added her sixth goal for the club already.
Two quickly became three as Rangers took complete control of the match. Nic Doc’s cross in the second phase of play was swung at by Hardy before it fell to Chelsea Cornet to finish on the half volley as she fired in a third and a first goal of the new campaign for the midfielder.
Rangers started the second half quickly as Katie Wilkinson found the back of the net for her second consecutive hat-trick as she added a fourth on the day. A delivery from the right flank from Hay was met by the forward on the half volley as she fired it beyond Currie as the hosts took complete control of the game.
Potter’s side looked to go further ahead as Hay looked to provide another. Her delivery in the box saw a mix-up between Hardy and McLoughlin as they got in each other’s way before the latter fired over the top.
Into the closing stages of the game the Gers went in search of a fifth. Wilkinson won the ball high as she spotted substitute Eilidh Austin on the overlap to her right, the youngster picked it up but her drilled effort was collected by Currie.
Austin again went close this time from a cross-come shot. The full-back found herself well advanced again as her delivery round the back clipped off the top of the bar and stayed out as the Gers started their three-game week in emphatic fashion as they prepare to host Queens Park on Wednesday.
