The squad will continue their learning journey following a difficult challenge tonight against James Orr’s side.
In the sixth minute, the visitors nearly opened the scoring with two strikes rattling off the post. After a wonderful save from Jay Hogarth onto his left-hand post, Stephen O’Neill’s follow up strike hit the post again from the keeper’s block.
Less than a minute later, Owen Andrew got the opener for the Colts. The visiting skipper found space on the edge of the Gers penalty box and delivered a great right-foot shot past Hogarth who was unable to get an arm to the ball.
The visitors found some momentum after their opener with Hogarth making several excellent saves at key moments to deny the Colts a second.
The B Team began to find some composure, holding more possession and pushing further into the Cumbernauld final third to pressurise their defence.
The Young Gers’ determination paid off as Charlie McCann found the equaliser in the 13th minute after some great link-up play with Tony Weston. McCann managed to find space in a congested box, executing a shot low and hard to find the back of the net.
On 28 minutes after some loose play in the Rangers final third, Cameron Dickson intercepted the ball from Murray Miller just wide of the Rangers box. He linked up with Andrew who drove the ball into a tight Rangers box and past Hogarth to get the second goal for the visitors.
In the 31st minute, Kane Ritchie-Hosler linked up well with McCann in the Colts penalty box with Ritchie-Hosler eventually finding the back of the net for the youngsters, but it was disallowed after an offside ruling.
A few minutes later, Tony Weston nearly delivered the equalising goal for the Gers. McCann played a wonderful through ball from the halfway line to Weston running down the right-wing. Weston took a first touch to the edge of the box but dragged his shot low across the face of the goal, just missing the back post by inches.
The visiting side were on the attack after this, and after receiving a ball from a long throw-in, Stephen O’Neill found the third for his side after firing a powerful shot from the edge of the Light Blues box with Hogarth unable to get an arm to it.
In the 41st minute, Sean Winter netted the fourth goal for the Colts from a tight angle at the back post and Hogarth was unable to get a hand to the awkward angled shot.
Heading into the second half, Dominic McLaughlin was sent off after an immediate red card following a poor challenge on Robbie Ure inside the Colts half.
The young Gers picked up their pace and continued to drive their way into the visitors final third and making important challenges.
Arron Lyall did well to drive into the visitors’ box and weave through a number of blue shirts, but the ball was blocked and cleared by a defender. A few seconds later, Lyall had an opportunity on goal, but his shot was just wide of the post.
The youngsters continued to pile on the pressure by pushing into the backline, but the Colts did well to intercept and block any opportunities that the Gers had.
In the 69th minute, Weston nearly found the second for the Light Blues after McCann linked up with Weston on the edge of the box to switch the ball. Weston took the ball into the box, but his strike was deflected by a blue shirt and went wide for a corner.
Lyall nearly hit the back of the net in the 77th minute, McCann delivered a lovely chip from the edge of the box to meet the head of Lyall, but his shot was fired over the crossbar.
The intensity continued throughout the second half with each team scrapping for the ball at every opportunity. Ritchie-Hosler whipped a threatening ball into the box, but Alexander Marshall got the first touch to it.
The youngsters were determined to maintain the momentum in the final minutes of the match. They were awarded a free kick at the edge of the box, McCann stood up to take the shot, but his strike went over the crossbar.
