The Young Gers left it late in wet conditions in Dumbarton, but their persistence was rewarded ten minutes from time when Connor Allan met Robbie Fraser’s free-kick.
Charlie Lindsay then stretched his side’s advantage, before James Graham rounded off a blistering end to the game for the Light Blues to seal all three points.
David McCallum named four changes to his Rangers B side for the visit of Berwick Rangers, with Adam Devine, Lewis Budinauckas, Johnly Yfeko and Zak Lovelace coming into the starting lineup.
Barely a minute had elapsed in the contest when Rangers engineered their first opportunity. Zak Lovelace showed tremendous strength to turn his marker before unleashing a shot towards the far corner that required the Berwick Rangers goalkeeper to tip the ball onto the post.
Mackenzie Strachan then rattled the upright minutes later, collecting the ball on the edge of the penalty area after the Light Blues had done excellently to work the ball around the Berwick Rangers defensive block.
The home side were enjoying superiority in the early exchanges, with Arron Lyall striking the post after fizzing the ball into the danger area following neat interplay with Charlie Lindsay.
Alex Lowry and Fraser combined in the 19th minute, with the Gers captain sending a dangerous first-time cross across goal.
The rain continued to lash down in Dumbarton as Lowry had a goalbound effort blocked after bursting through on goal.
Lewis Budinauckas was then forced into a smart stop from five yards out from Lewis Allan after the ball fell invitingly in the penalty area for the Berwick Rangers forward.
Adam Devine worked his way into a promising crossing opportunity on the stroke of half time, but the away side did well to read the full-back’s low delivery and cleared the ball to safety.
Robbie Ure – fresh off his midweek hat-trick - entered the fray at the interval in place of Alex Lowry, who produced another promising 45 minutes in his return from injury.
The forward was almost on the scoresheet three minutes into the second period; Lovelace beat his marker in a one-versus-one situation before crossing for the unmarked Ure in the penalty area, but Jamie Pyper was on hand to header the ball out for a corner.
The Light Blues threatened once again in the 57th minute. Lyall delivered a cute pass into McCausland in space on the right where, lurking at the far post, Ure was unfortunate not to turn home the cross from the narrowest of angles.
Lewis MacKinnon replaced Mackenzie Strachan shortly after the hour mark as the Light Blues went in search of an opener.
Ure and Lovelace combined in the penalty area to create a moment of danger, but the former could not weave his way through a congested penalty area.
Fraser delivered a low driven cross towards Ure in the middle minutes later, but the forward could not get a clean connection on his strike as the Light Blues stepped up the pressure.
Berwick Rangers had a couple of moments of their own down the opposite end with 18 minutes to play. Firstly, substitute Liam Buchanan contrived to send his header onto the crossbar from point-blank range, before the visiting forward was denied by a superb diving save from Budinauckas shortly after.
Lovelace stung the palms of Calum Antell with a powerful drive, before Lyall sent the ball agonisingly wide from a tight angle after being played through.
Rangers found the breakthrough ten minutes from time as their persistence was rewarded. Fraser delivered a tantalising free-kick into the area from the right-hand side where Allan broke free and glanced his header into the bottom corner.
The home side then doubled their advantage late in the game to seal all three points in difficult conditions, with Lindsay curling home from outside of the penalty area with an impressive strike.
Substitute Graham got in on the act in stoppage time, firing home from a narrow angle to cap off a ferocious end to the contest for McCallum’s men in Dumbarton.
Attention now shifts to UEFA Youth League action in midweek where Rangers travel to Italy to face Napoli.
