Report: Rangers Fire Eleven Past Forfar

A DOMINANT Rangers performance saw them defeat Forfar Farmington 11-0 at Rangers Training Centre this afternoon.

Gers were relentless from the first whistle as Lizzie Arnot, Brogan Hay and Zoe Ness all bagged doubles with midfielder Sam Kerr netting a hat-trick. Second-half substitutes Sonia O’Neill and Clare Gemmell rounded off the scoring for the afternoon.

Malky Thomson named three changes to his team from Wednesday evening’s match with goalkeeper Megan Cunningham, Zoe Ness and Chelsea Cornet all coming into the starting XI

Rangers started positively and with just five minutes on the clock, Gers almost had a breakthrough as Sam Kerr drove to the byline before cutting the ball back to Chelsea Cornet in the box but Forfar goalkeeper Lauren Perry got a touch on the shot to tip it onto the crossbar.

The early pressure paid off on the seventh minute as Rangers got the opening goal, Brogan Hay drove down the right and delivered a dangerous cross across the face of goal which was tapped home from close range by Lizzie Arnot.

Just two minutes later the home side doubled their advantage as Nicola Docherty picked out Zoe Ness in the box and the striker touched the ball beyond Perry for her seventh goal of the season.

Rangers were relentless in the opening stages as Zoe Ness and Sam Kerr both saw efforts go over the bar.

Ness came close to her second of the match as she drilled a powerful shot towards goal, but Forfar goalkeeper Perry was alert and managed to get a hand to the ball to touch it behind for a corner.

Forfar tried to hit Rangers on the break in the 22nd minute as a long ball forward picked out the run of London Pollard and the striker tried to loop the ball over Rangers keeper Megan Cunningham but it landed on the roof of the net.

Chelsea Cornet found space on the right to deliver a dangerous ball into the box just before the half-hour mark which met striker Zoe Ness who hit it first time but it just rose over the bar.

The third did come on the 30th minute as Sam Kerr and Zoe Ness worked a lovely one-two which saw Ness lay the ball off to Kerr inside the box and she fired a shot beyond Lauren Perry for her third Rangers goal.

Rangers added a fourth as Lizzie Arnot found space down the left and delivered a dangerous ball into Brogan Hay who shot beyond Lauren Perry.

Gers kept going and going, and Hay added a fifth on the 42nd minute as she found space to turn and drilled a powerful shot into the back of the net.

Just two minutes later, Sam Kerr added a sixth as she picked up the ball just inside the Forfar half and drove towards the box and with space the midfielder took on the shot from the edge of the area and curled it into the right hand corner of the net.

In first-half injury time Rangers were awarded a penalty as Sam Kerr was taken down in the box, Lizzie Arnot stepped up to the spot and made no mistake in firing beyond Perry.

Rangers started the second-half the same way as they ended the first and added an eighth goal less than two minutes into the half. Brogan Hay picked out Zoe Ness in the box and she turned and chipped the ball over Lauren Perry from a tight angle.

With 20 minutes remaining, Rangers got their ninth goal of the afternoon. Sonia O’Neill turned well to find the run of Sam Kerr in the box and the midfielder drilled a low shot beyond Lauren Perry for her hat-trick.

Rangers added a tenth goal on the 78th minute as Nicola Docherty picked out the run of Lizzie Arnot on the left and she delivered a low ball into the box which was turned behind by Sonia O’Neill for her first competitive Rangers goal.

The hosts were not letting up as Clare Gemmell made it 11-0 with 10 minutes still to go. Brogan Hay picked out Gemmell in the box and her shot beat Lauren Perry.
