Report: Rangers Put Five Past Broomhill

RANGERS B Team collect three points in the Lowland League after defeating Broomhill FC 5 -1 at Dumbarton Stadium.

Two goals from Charlie McCann and Tony Weston, and a goal from Kyle McClelland saw the young Gers showcase their development after another positive result and performance within the league campaign.

The Light Blues returned to familiar home surroundings today as they continued their league journey against David Gormley’s Broomhill side in front of the home fans.

Six changes were made for this afternoon’s fixture, with Lewis Budinauckas replacing Aaron Cervantes in goals.

Leon King, Adam Devine, and Kyle McClelland returned to the backline alongside Robbie Fraser.

Murray Miller, Cole McKinnon and Charlie McCann were in the middle of the park, with Tony Weston, Alex Lowry and Ross McCausland up front for the young Gers.

The youngsters started positively straight from the kick-off and comfortably controlled in the early stages of the game. They remained patient on the ball, dominating possession to create several chances against the visitors.

The first notable effort occurred in the 12th minute when Ross McCausland and Tony Weston linked up well to drive towards the visitor’s goal. Weston played a lovely ball to the on running McCausland, who was able to find some space with the ball inside a congested Broomhill box, but his shot was deflected and sent just wide of the goal.

The youngsters didn’t have to wait long before their possession and early dominance paid off and it was Weston who opened the scoring in the 17th minute after a lovely cross from Robbie Fraser. Alex Lowry delivered a great pass from the middle of the park to Fraser running down the right side, the youngster pushed past the backline to send a superb ball to find Weston who was able to slot it past Jamie Smith.

Only a few minutes later, Charlie McCann found the second after hitting the back of the net. The Light Blue picked the ball on the edge of the box, found himself some space before delivering a powerful shot past the keeper.

The youngsters kept up their patient endeavours as they entered the last five minutes of the first half, and this almost resulted in McCausland scoring the third for the Gers. The striker collected the ball within the Broomhill box and pushed towards the front post, but his powerful shot was blocked to deny him a goal.

In the 41st minute and against the run of play, Broomhill closed the deficit to one with Lewis Crawford scored for the visiting side, after his shot was deflected past Budinauckas The young Gers carried their momentum into the second half to maintain their lead.

Kyle McClelland found the third for the Light Blues in the 51st minute, after McKinnon delivered a dangerous ball to connect with a towering McClelland to send it into the back of the net.

Shortly after, Lowry picked the ball advanced forward into the box and cut the ball in from the front post to an unmarked McCann. The youngster took a confident strike find his second goal of the afternoon.

Weston found the fifth and his second goal shortly after, the youngster was able to intercept Jack McCalman’s pass and push into the box to challenge the keeper. Weston was able to calmly slot it past Smith from a powerful low shot.

The Gers continued to pressurise the Broomhill final third by pushing into the backline. Kane Ritchie-Hosler did well to create a chance from the right wing, with McCausland hitting the back of the net with one, but eventually being ruled offside.

The B team continued to battle their way toward the goal and outlined their hunger to keep their momentum going up to the final whistle. McCausland picked the ball up on the edge of the box and whipped a shot towards goal, but it was just inches over the crossbar.
