The 16-year-old came into the side from the weekend’s league win in the 5-1 victory which on the day saw the Gers register five different goal scorers.
Speaking to RangersTV the midfielder was happy with the number of goals they got on the day but was just happy to get the first victory in the group stage on the board.
He said: “It is always good to score a lot of goals, and the most important thing was to get the three points.
“I thought it was a good performance, the first 20 minutes we started quite slow, but I thought in the later stages of the game I thought we started playing our style’’.
He says despite the 3-0 half time lead, the head coach wanted more from his side but has praised the quality of goals from the players and their second half display.
“The message at half time was to do more of the same but he [McCallum] wasn’t overly convinced about the first half performance, but I thought we corrected that in the second half.
“Tony [Weston] always adds that quality, a great goal and then obviously Robbie Ure comes on and scores as well’’.
The B side are next in action next Tuesday as they host Clyde in the same competition with Rice stating their aim is to try top the group as they look to build on their opening victory.
He added: “Our goal is to top the group and we go into another game against Clyde on Tuesday, it is just about trying to get another three points’’.
