The Academy graduate yesterday penned a contract extension which will keep him at the club until 2026, becoming the latest young player to commit his future to the Gers.
Fraser was rewarded with his senior Rangers debut in the 5-2 win over Dundee at Ibrox last season, which was the culmination of 14 years of hard work and constant self-improvement in the youth ranks.
Speaking to RangersTV after signing his new, two-year deal, the 21-year-old commented: “It’s a special moment and a big day for people close to me, my family and friends.
“I take so much pride in being involved with this football club and it’s a really good feeling to stay for a couple more years.
“The manager has shown an added faith in the young players, and he has given me my opportunity in the first-team which I’m so happy about.
“I have a lot to be thankful for and I can really see positive strides for me moving forward.
“My conversations with the manager? They have been really good and positive. I had a really good chat with him before I made my debut, which was a real eye-opener in the sense that things could happen for me at this club.
“If you are willing to work hard enough, and try to get better every single day, then the manager has shown he will give you opportunities.
“I’m thankful that I did get my opportunity and I hope to kick on now.”
Fraser committing his future to the club comes off the back of a positive debut campaign in senior football for fellow Academy graduate Ross McCausland, who is just a month younger than the full-back.
There was also a European debut for 21-year-old Cole McKinnon last term in the UEFA Europa League knockout stages away to Benfica, while Johnly Yfeko, Zak Lovelace and Bailey Rice also enjoyed first-team involvement.
The number of Academy players being afforded opportunities by Clement highlights the pathway between the youth ranks and first-team, says Fraser, and the full-back is keen to repay the faith shown in him by the various coaches he’s worked with across his Academy journey.
He added: “It’s amazing to do it with some of your best friends. They are all great players themselves, so to be on the pitch with them at the same time, and train with them every day, is a really great feeling.
“I’m into my 15th year at the club. There have been so many ups and downs that it almost feels like a rollercoaster.
“But I’ve enjoyed it all and I’m happy that it’s continuing.
“There are so many coaches to be thankful for throughout my academy journey and first-team.
“They have all put so much time and effort into me, to making me into the player that I am today, and there’s too many to name individually. But I hope they know how grateful I am.
“Training with the first-team has been massive against the high-level of players here every day. It can only make you better as a player and I feel like I’m improving every day.
“Yesterday was the first day back in and I’ve enjoyed the fitness testing! But I’m looking forward to getting on the pitch and hopefully it’s a successful season for me.”
