The Northern Irish international has become a regular member of the first-team squad since the Belgian's arrival in October and has made over 30 appearances this campaign.
There was also a European debut for 21-year-old Cole McKinnon in the 2-2 away draw to Benfica, while full-back Robbie Fraser made his senior debut in the victory over Dundee on Tuesday evening.
Speaking to the media ahead of tomorrow's season finale against Hearts at Tynecastle, the 21-year-old said: "The manager has been massive ever since he came in terms of giving me a chance and speaking to me.
"He said to me when he first came to keep doing what I was doing before he came in, and that's something I wanted to do.
"I have had a lot of starts in quite a few big games, and you can obviously see it now with Robbie Fraser and Cole McKinnon the other night.
"It's amazing to see teammates that I've played with for four or five years and being on this journey together.
"If I look at where I am now, the game the other evening was my 28th game in the league.
"Some of the games that I've played in: Old Firm derbies, Real Betis away in terms of the atmosphere and quality that I'm playing against.
"To be where I am now, and looking back at the games that I've played in, is amazing.
"It was something that I said a few months ago, that it was starting to feel a bit normal.
"Everyone was still looking and judging me as a young player, but I think it's probably at this point now that I'm being judged as a first-team player.
"Ultimately, I want to be having the same outputs as the first-team boys and get into the starting team for years to come."
The Gers will bring down their Scottish Premiership campaign with a trip to the capital tomorrow.
And it promises to be an exciting tune-up for the Old Firm Scottish Cup final in just over seven days’ time, with McCausland eager to get his hands on silverware for the second time this term.
He added: "Coming off the back of getting a trophy earlier on in the season was another thing I didn't expect so early into my first-team career.
"All the boys are disappointed we didn't win the league, but we have two big games coming up and we want to finish strong.
"We want to win every trophy that we can, and now we have the chance to win another.
"It would be good going into the summer holiday and being able to look back on two trophies.
"We know the cup final is around the corner and there's going to be limited spaces available with players coming back too.
"It's about what you do now and in the game tomorrow, there's still a lot of days in training to show why you should be in that starting spot."
