The side make the short trip to Paisley at Sunday lunchtime as they look to continue their evolution as a team in the early stages of Martin's tenure in the dugout.
The Gers Head Coach insists he was pleased by the second half showing in midweek - which could have yielded a second goal through Djeidi Gassama if not for a VAR intervention - and is excited by the challenge that St. Mirren will pose.
Speaking to the media to preview the contest, Martin commented: "It's an exciting game for us because we need to go there and show how much we can compete and fight as a team.
"We need to turn the game into one that we want, but to do that you need to really fight for it and earn it.
"They're really well organised and coached, really aggressive and physically powerful.
"Every game here is a different challenge and that's the exciting bit.
"The focus in training has been on how we can hurt them and be aware of what their threats are. We need to really be there from the first minute.
"We paid the price for a crazy 20/25 minutes where the reaction to big disappointments just wasn't good enough.
"We need to transform the energy around the whole place and that's through bringing energy [to the training ground] every day, as a group of players and staff, and transferring it onto the pitch."
Martin confirmed that Cyriel Dessers is unlikely to feature on Sunday as he makes his way back from the injury which curtailed his involvement against Viktoria Plzen ten days ago. Hamza Igamane, meanwhile, will be fit enough only for the bench.
Still, the Gers Head Coach has full belief in the players at his disposal, strengthened through the loan addition of full-back Jayden Meghoma last week, and believes now is the time for his side to transform positive periods into results in their league campaign.
He added: "We'll work every day. I said from day one it's an absolute honour to be here.
"I'm excited to be in this role and working with this group of players and staff. That hasn't waned at all.
"The second half [on Tuesday] gave me more excitement about what's to come. I can only control what we can control and that's by working hard and being all-in, treating it like we'll be here for a long time with the staff and players.
"After playing here I understand how big it is and important, and how things get heightened very quickly.
"My career has been built on proving people wrong, but I'm driven on how we can be the best every single day.
"Now as a coach, I'm driven by helping players as much as I possibly can and giving them some real clarity and building something for them."
