Fresh off the back of a strong 4-1 victory against Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership, the USA international says the squad are ‘eager to get a result for the fans’ as they host the Dutch side at Ibrox.
Speaking to the media at this evening’s pre-match press conference, Sands said: “Anyone can see it has certainly been tough for us, the results have not gone the way we would've liked but we need to take the emotion out of it a little bit and focus on what we can do better and what we have done well.
“Tomorrow night is our last chance to prove what we have learned and a good opportunity for all of us.
“I think we all feel the fans deserve something, they have waited a long time to see us play in the Champions League so we are all pretty eager to get a good result for them and a good result for us.
The 22-year-old hopes the squad can build on Saturday’s performance which saw Rangers come from behind to take all three points against Aberdeen.
He continued: “It definitely has been a challenging couple of weeks in this competition but I think the game at the weekend was a big step forward for this group and we are hoping to build on that.
“It is the best this team has played in weeks so even though there is a quality gap between the league and the Champions League I think the same principles apply.
“You will have less time on the ball and it will be more difficult but you have to keep trying to do the same things, be positive, be aggressive and I think that is how you get a good result against the top teams.
“There's nothing that builds momentum like a big win and we'll aim for another positive result tomorrow night.”
When asked about his own personal experience of Champions League football, Sands feels it will make him a better player going forward.
He continued: “The results have not been good and no one wants to go through that but once you focus on what you have learned I think I am a much better player for it.
“As a young player I know I am going to make mistakes, I know I'll have a lot more highs and lows ahead but as I said before as long as I have learned from it. I just need to implement what I have learned and hope for a positive result tomorrow night.
“The game against Aberdeen is a good example of the strengths I do bring and I have loved my time here so far. I hope the fans recognise that as well but I also know you are only as good as your last performance but I need to play well again tomorrow night.”
