Women’s and Girls’ Operations Co-ordinator Sara Spiers helps support the players in every aspect from arriving in Glasgow, finding accommodation, arranging transport and helping them get to know the area.
In their first full season as a professional side, the work behind the scenes ensures the squad are able to put their full focus into football as the SWPL season continues.
Speaking to RangersTV this week, Sara gave us a bit of an insight into the work she does at the club.
She said: “My role is looking after the players, providing support and just managing the operations for women's first team and girl's academy.
“It is about being there for the players as much as we can and to be that person they can come to whenever they need any support.
“My role mostly is looking at things like accommodation for the players, particularly those coming from overseas and sorting them out for life in Scotland.
“We get in contact with them initially to get to know a bit about them and where they are coming from. We organise their accommodation while they are here, get them settled into life in Scotland and all the things that come with that.
“It is just about being there and giving them a bit of an idea as to what it is like here, the area we are in at the training centre and help them get them to know the area.”
With the challenges brought by the Coronavirus pandemic, it has meant a very different approach to operations for Sara as they ensure a safe environment for everyone at the training centre.
She added: “The pandemic has changed the way football normally runs, things like the players all being in the same dressing room together, eating together, analysis it has been a lot more difficult not being allowed to be in close proximity.
“It has changed the way we have had to do everything but the club has put in a massive effort behind the scenes to make sure it the safest environment for everyone.
“We have had to put all the protocols in place and obviously more recently the Covid testing which has been brought into the women's game. There's a lot of work behind the scenes to get all of that in place and make everything safe.”
As well as ensuring the players are supported on the pitch, Sara feels off the pitch support has been vital over recent months with the suspension of the SWPL and recent lockdowns.
She continued: “We make sure that the players have everything sorted for them and their full focus is going out onto the pitch so we are all working together with the coaches and staff and everyone to make sure that happens.
“We have had a bit of a stop start season but we have been in regular contact that entire time, catching up on zoom and just the players knowing that all of us are just a phone call away if they ever need anything and I think that is vital.” WATCH: You can watch a trailer for the interview below and RangersTV subscribers can watch in full HERE.
