The young midfielder, who is a product of the Gers’ youth academy, has agreed a two-year deal.
Coming through the academy ranks, she enjoyed a successful time at Under-16s and 18s youth levels before she was part of the first-team squad for the first time in the summer of 2024.
Having also featured in pre-season training regularly with the club that year, she was handed her senior debut by then Head Coach Jo Potter in a comfortable opening-day win over Aberdeen at the beginning of the 24/25 season.
Another unique experience was to follow for the youngster, as she was named as part of the travelling squad to London that featured in Champions League qualifying matches against both Arsenal and Atletico Madrid.
At that stage, having been around the first-team picture, she got the opportunity to gain valuable top-flight loan experience with Motherwell in the first six months of 2025, making an impact with the K-Park-based side during a loan spell in the second half of that season.
Following Leanne Crichton’s appointment, she then returned to join Iain Robinson’s side on loan at the beginning of last season alongside Lily Boyce before the pair were recalled in January this year to be involved with the Rangers squad for the second half of the campaign.
Black featured on five occasions thereafter, scoring her first goal with an impressive strike in an away win over Hamilton on February 8, before being handed a first start for the club in the team’s second post-split fixture away to Hibs.
Having now been back involved in the club’s pre-season programme in recent weeks, she will look to continue her development further through the upcoming season as she becomes a full-time member of the Rangers squad.
Speaking after signing her first professional contract with Rangers, Black said: "I am absolutely delighted; it is such a proud moment for me and my family. I can't wait to get started, and I am really excited to be here for the future.
"The players have all made me feel so welcome; I really enjoyed my time, but I am excited to be here."
Women’s Head Coach, Leanne Crichton, added: “Sophie has shown tremendous growth and maturity in the second half of the season, and I have been really pleased with the progress she continues to make within the team.
"During her time at Motherwell, Sophie consistently impressed with her attitude, work ethic and performances, which is why I felt it was the right decision to bring her back into our environment.
"Since returning, she has continued to develop and has really embraced the demands and standards required at Rangers. Her willingness to learn, alongside the quality she possesses, gives her a very exciting future ahead.
"I am delighted she has committed her future to the club, and I look forward to seeing her continue to grow and play an important role within this team in the years to come."
Women’s and Girls’ Managing Director, Donald Gillies, also said: "Another player signing her first professional contract, Sophie is someone who has really shown her quality this term.
"There is plenty more to come from Sophie, and we believe under Leanne and her coaching team that she will reach her full potential.
"We are determined to continue to provide opportunities to our Academy players, and if they are good enough then they are old enough."
