JOHN SOUTTAR says his goal in this afternoon’s Old Firm derby was a moment he dreamed of while recovering from a long-term injury.
The centre-back got on the end of a James Tavernier corner to head home his first goal for the club in today’s 3-0 victory at Ibrox.
Speaking to RangersTV after the game, he said: “It was class, it is something we work on with Harry [Watling] to attack that front post and drag them in and thankfully we did that. It was a great delivery from the skipper, and I was there to put it in.
“It has been a tough season for me and when you are injured you just think about those kinds of moments and almost dream of scoring in those moments so for me to get that goal was massive and I really enjoyed it.”
With three goals and a clean sheet, it was a strong display from the squad and Souttar believes the start to the match was key for Rangers.
He continued: “I think it was a big day for everyone, individually and collectively, to finish out what has been a tough season to get the three points and the clean sheet.
“We started really aggressively, we started on the front foot, and I think that is when we are at our best. Especially in Old Firm's if you start well usually more than often you are the better team so for us to start the way we did was massive, and the crowd got behind us and the atmosphere got behind us and it really drove us on.
“We have got great attacking players, I thought they were really good today so I think if we can keep a clean sheet and keep solid, we have got every chance of winning the game and thankfully we did today.”
The defender says while the squad can take positives, it is a small step as they look to continue to build moving forward. He added: “It is a small step forward, a lot of boys had stuff to prove today, myself coming back from injury and other boys for different reasons and I think we all did that to an extent, it is a small step but it is one in the right direction.”
