The defender appeared in his first 90 minutes of his Rangers career so far and his first start since the victory at Livingston on the opening day of the league season after having to overcome a long term ankle injury.
Speaking to the media in this afternoon’s press conference ahead of the Gers’ next Scottish Premiership clash against St Mirren the defender is hoping to take the opportunity to establish himself as a regular in the starting lineup having appeared in the Light Blues’ last four matches.
He said: “I feel really good, I have been training for over a month and towards two months now, usually with my other injuries I was straight back into the team, but obviously being here it is different.
“There are people in front of me that were doing well, so it gives me that opportunity to build up properly and take a month or two to come back.
“I am feeling the benefits now I am back in because I feel really good physically.
“This is the first real opportunity that I have had to be in the team, it is up to me now to go and take the opportunity and go and impress, show myself and everyone what I can do.”
The 26-year-old admits it has been a tough start to life in Glasgow having joined on a free transfer last summer but feels his previous time out with injury has helped him this time round.
He continued: “I think it does help you to an extent because you have been there before, you know what it is like to come back and the things you need to do.
“It was a more difficult one because you have just signed for Rangers you want to impress; you want to go and prove to yourself and everyone else that you are good enough to be here and you can play.
“It was frustrating period for me but now I am back I just need to do everything I can to stay in the team.
“You just need to focus and be mentally strong, you have to have an end goal, focus on coming back and being the best you can, and focus on playing for Rangers which is what I signed to do.
“I'd actually felt like I had done it before so that was always the goal for me, to come back and be as good a player as I possibly can for the club.
“It has been a tough start to my Rangers career, it wasn't how I envisioned it when I signed but it is one of these things, but I am back now and feeling good, I am just glad to be getting moments on the park.”
Souttar says he is happy to play anywhere in the backline having appeared in both centre-back positions in a back four and also as part of a three man defence in his minutes on the pitch for Michael Beale’s side so far.
He added: “When you have just signed for Rangers and this was my last start last week, wherever the manager asks me to play I will play, I just want to play for the club.
“I will do everything I can to stay in the team and whether that is left right or wherever, I will do everything I can wherever the manager asks me to play I will play.”
