The big defender fired home from close range to put Philippe Clement’s men 3-0 up before half-time at Ibrox.
It was Souttar’s first start since the 1-1 draw with Tottenham on December 12 and he topped it off by grabbing his first goal of the season from a well-worked corner routine.
The Scotland international thought he had a second on the day only for the offside flag to rule it out, but Souttar was delighted to be back and says it was a good afternoon all round for the Light Blues.
Speaking to RangersTV, he said: “It was an enjoyable day.
“In the first half we dominated and we moved the ball around quickly. In the second half we came off it a wee bit but it was to be expected after what we put in against USG on Thursday.
“But our long term aim is to keep doing that.
“Set plays are massive in the modern game and we do a lot of work on it. We have had a few goals from them recently and we hope that continues.
“I thought I had a second goal and I don’t get many, I want more goals, so it would have been nice.
“But I am enjoying being back, getting 60 minutes under my belt was good.
“It’s not about me getting goals, it is about the team winning and keeping a clean sheet and the three points, that’s what I enjoy.”
Rangers secured their place in the Europa League last-16 with Thursday’s 2-1 win over Belgian side USG.
Souttar knows the players have to make sure they start Premiership matches with the right attitude.
He partnered French defender Clinton Nsiala in the heart of the defence for the first time and Souttar says he was impressed by his sidekick and he will add strength to the rearguard.
He added: “When you come off a big game on the Thursday night, these games can go one of two ways.
“It was important we play how we want to play, that’s quickly and stretch teams and once we got the first goal we wanted a second and when we got that we wanted a third.
“It is the attitude you need to have.
“Clinton is still so young, he has taken a few months to get into the team and I enjoy playing with him.
“We have a lot of quality centre-backs and he is another to add to the list.
“He has a lot of qualities and he is enjoying being here.”
