Steven Davis Signs Contract Extension

RANGERS are today delighted to confirm midfielder Steven Davis has signed a one-year extension to his Ibrox contract.

The midfielder, who is currently on international duty as captain of Northern Ireland, is set to play a part in a tenth season as a Ranger across two spells.

He initially joined the club on-loan in January 2008, and made that move permanent that summer, staying until the summer of 2012.

In that time, he won three league titles, three League Cups and two Scottish Cups, while also claiming a runners-up medal in the 2008 UEFA Cup final.

Following a successful spell at Premier League Southampton, he returned to Rangers in the 2019 January transfer window, again on an initial loan.

He quickly re-established himself as a key figure for the Light Blues and has since gone on to add a further league title, Scottish Cup and Europa League runners-up medal in the three-and-a-half years since.

While he has continued to play a significant role on the park, off it, he has been a real leader in the dressing room, with his experience proving invaluable for so many players around him.

The most-capped British footballer of all time has matches with his national team to look forward to in the UEFA Nations League against Greece in Belfast on Thursday, away to Cyprus on Sunday and then Kosovo next Thursday before they welcome the Cypriots to Windsor Park on Sunday week. He will then rejoin his Rangers teammates for pre-season at the end of June.

Speaking upon signing his new deal, a delighted Davis commented: "I am absolutely delighted. It was a really important season for us last year, and to finish on a high with the Scottish Cup was important for the team and the group and we want to try and kick on again next year now.

"We know success is what is demanded at the club, and you want to play at the highest level possible, and we have shown we are capable of doing that as a group, so it is really important we try to kick on next season and get our hands on more silverware."

Sporting Director, Ross Wilson, added: “It’s great that we will continue to have Steven’s influence and understanding of Rangers with the group over the course of the next 12 months.

“Steven and Gio had a really good chat about how the manager sees the next 12 months, and as a club we are also keen to support Steven’s development in his coaching aspirations when the time is right and when he wants to do that.”
