Steven Gerrard Named Manager Of The Month

STEVEN GERRARD has today been named Scottish Premiership Manager of the Month for December.

Gerrard and his backroom staff were presented with their award at their training camp in Dubai as the hard work for the second half of the season continues.

It’s the second monthly award that the Gers manager has received this season, after he picked up the September award too.

The Light Blues had an excellent December despite a punishing schedule, scoring a remarkable 15 goals as they won five matches and drew once, with four of the matches being away from home.

The month started with a comprehensive 5-0 win over Hearts at Ibrox with Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Greg Stewart on target, with Christophe Berra notching an own goal.

Next up was a midweek trip to Pittodrie to face Aberdeen where despite taking an early two goal lead through Scott Arfield and Ryan Jack, the Gers returned to Glasgow with a point.

Following the League Cup final, and qualification for the Europa League beyond Christmas, Gerrard’s men made the trip to Lanarkshire to face Motherwell, where goals from Nikola Katic and Morelos secured a 2-0 win.

On Friday 20th December, the Gers travelled to the capital to face Hibs at Easter Road. In a comprehensive 3-0 victory and impressive performance, Kent, Joe Aribo and Jermain Defoe grabbed the goals.

A Boxing Day fixture against Kilmarnock with Alex Dyer at the helm was next and it was Morelos who found the way through the Killie defence for a 1-0 win.

The final game of 2019, and the decade, was a top of the table clash with Celtic at Parkhead. In a dominant performance, it was goals from Kent and Katic that gave the Light Blues the three points to go in to the winter break two points off the top of the table with a game in hand.
