Alfredo Morelos’ second-half strike was the difference this evening as Rangers recorded their 20th clean sheet of the league campaign.
Speaking to RangersTV after the match, Gerrard said: “It was a big performance, to a man every single person stood up tonight.
“We had to compete and we had to work very hard for the result but it was thoroughly deserved. We controlled most of the first-half and I thought in the second-half we went up a level again.
“We limited Hibs to very few chances and we defended a lot better than the previous times we have come here.
“Buff has stepped up at an important time with a big goal but it was a great team goal again.
“I am really proud of the efforts, I am demanding a lot from these players every single day so I have to praise them and they deserve a lot of credit for the performance tonight.
“It is that time of year when pitches get a bit wet and get a bit bobbly especially as the game goes on but we have got some real good technical players and I thought the goal was a technical goal but we didn't come here to play a technical game.
“We came to play an effective game, we wanted to make it about their defenders and that's where the goal has come from, we gave the players the game plan but they have carried it out and they have executed it to a tee.”
It was a real defensive team effort at Easter Road as Gerrard praised strikers Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe for their impact as second-half substitutes.
He added: “They came on and did a terrific job because we needed them at that time.
“We needed to hold the ball up, we needed to secure it and we needed some selfless running and people to work hard but I think the clean sheet came from everyone really sacrificing themselves for the team and putting their body on the line.
“Hibs never went away and we expected that, we needed that second goal to breathe but it never came. We had some really good opportunities but over the course of the 90 minutes we are going away with exactly what we deserve.
“We need four centre backs over the course of a season I have said it so many times. Leon and Fil at times need that management because they have had little niggles and injuries by pushing them so hard and asking them to do so much.
“They are a little bit different to Connor in terms of that robustness but what I will say is, whoever I have asked to play in defence this season whether it be a young kid or someone who has played the majority of the games we are defending really really well as a defensive unit.”
With no game this weekend due to the suspension of the Scottish Cup, Rangers have a week until they face St Johnstone at Ibrox.
Gerrard continued: “We will be in tomorrow to train the lads who need some minutes and some volume in their legs to prepare them as well as we can for St Johnstone.
“We will give them a day to spend with their families because we have got a week and then we will come in and we will get them ready and prepared.
“It will be a tough test as they are on the back of reaching a final so we will have to make sure we are right at it.”
