The Ibrox gaffer watched on as his side twice battled back from a goal down to level before winning their clash through a Scott Arfield goal on 62 minutes.
It’s the first time Gers have made it through a four-team UEFA group so quickly, and Gerrard told RangersTV: "It is a massive achievement and I am really proud of the players. They have given so much to the game tonight and they have given so much to the previous games in the group.
"We deserve to be qualified with a game to spare and we have come out of a real, tough group .
"There is still one game to play - we want to go there and give a good account of ourselves again and finish the group as strong as we can.
"But congratulations to the players - I am really pleased for the supporters and the board as there are obviously other factors that are so important as well.
"The players I thought over the course of the 90 minutes just deserved it tonight as the second half showing was superb."
Gers went into the half level at 2-2, before going on to dominate the second half. Gerrard continued: "The first half was a whirlwind. We had a few things we had to tweak tactically and they were causing us some problems.
"I don't think we were aggressive enough and I thought we were a little bit passive - we needed to get in their faces and be more aggressive and be more like Rangers out of possession.
"We got that in the second half. But these players from the beginning of the season have shown nothing but character.
"Some of the shifts that were out there today - Kemar Roofe - the sacrifice and the running he did for the team today was incredible.
"Ryan Kent had to sacrifice himself to do the job for the team and managed to come up with the important assist.
"I am so proud of all the players, and I thought in the second half we created the better chances so we probably just deserved to win the game."
Scott Arfield’s goal to win the game was absolutely top class from start to finish, and Gerrard added: "Big players step up at big moments and score big goals. Scott Arfield is in this XI on merit - he has worked ever-so hard to do that and he is performing very well to stay in the team and he is scoring really important goals for us.
"Add that to the workrate, the application and the professionalism he brings, I can't speak highly enough of where Scott is at the moment.
"He just needs to try and stay where he is now - bottle this feeling and carry it on for as long as he can."
