The Gers captain, 28, opened his account for the Light Blues on his debut in July 2015 when Mark Warburton’s side beat Hibs 6-2 at Easter Road in the first round of the Challenge Cup. And perhaps, not surprisingly, it was a great free-kick from the right-back which gave the visitors their first goal on that memorable afternoon.
Going back to Leith on Sunday, Tavernier – who is currently on 49 goals - would love nothing more that reach the half-century mark by finding the net again although he stresses his focus will be on helping his team battle for three important Premiership points.
Speaking at this morning’s pre-match press conference at the Rangers Training Centre, he said: "If I can get on the scoresheet or I can help the team with an assist I'll be delighted. All I want is to come away with three points and that is our first and foremost plan going over to Hibs on Sunday.
A lot has changed at Rangers since Taverner made his bow in the capital back in 2015 and, five years on, the defender feels the club is in a great position.
He continued: "I believe this season our squad has got even stronger. The management, the recruitment and obviously the board have done an amazing job to find the players that we need and to bring them in.
"We've obviously been hit with a few injuries and you've seen the players that have come in to replace them.
“If the squad is rotated, like it was last night, players are coming in and doing a job that the gaffer wants. It's really good and it is really exciting
One player who got his second taste of European football against Lincoln Red Imps last night was Nathan Patterson.
The 18-year-old replaced Kemar Roofe in the first half and Tavernier believes the young right-back has a great career ahead of him.
He added: “I'm delighted for Nathan. He's a great lad to have in the changing room and he's like a sponge, he soaks everything in.
"He's got great attributes to his game and as long as he keeps working hard, as he is now, he'll have a very good future."
