The Light Blues will take on Hearts for the second weekend running as they face-off at the national stadium in a bid for a place in December’s final.
Fresh off the back of the dramatic late victory over the Edinburgh side last weekend and Wednesday’s impressive 5-0 away win in Dundee, Tavernier says the squad must take momentum into this weekend.
Speaking to the media at this afternoon’s pre-match press conference, he said: “We have just got to treat it like every game we prepare for and do the best we can going into this game. We are coming off the back off some good results and we have built up some good momentum so we just need to keep doing the right things and hopefully we can get ourselves into a final.
“There's always expectation but we have got to take it game by game. We have prepared well for this game, so we are in a good place. We know it is going to be a tough test, they proved a test for us at Ibrox, but we overcame it, and we know our performances are only going to get better.”
Looking back on last weekend’s 2-1 victory over Hearts, Tavernier continued: “We showed real resilience in the team, and we showed a real mentality to never to give up and always go to the last whistle. That's what the manager wants us to do. It has shown really good character from the lads, so it is only going to stand us in good stead for the future.”
With Rangers last lifting the League Cup in season 2010/2011, Tavernier was asked about the motivation in the squad to secure the trophy this campaign.
He said: “Every competition and every game gives us motivation to win. Whether it is on the training pitch or in a game I have got motivation to win but it is a cup that I have never had my hands on, and it is something that the boys will try to do their best to do but we have got to get past Hearts first.
“It is the first trophy that we can get our hands on so it is something that you can obviously get early but I think what the Gaffer is wanting us to do is concentrate on week by week, month by month, and take every game as it comes.
“We can't think too much about the final or winning this trophy because first we obviously have to play Hearts, so we have got to get past this first and take it from there.”
