Team News: Simpson And Roofe Come In To Today's Team

STEVEN GERRARD has named Jack Simpson and Kemar Roofe in his team for today’s Scottish Premiership fixture at Ibrox Stadium.

With Filip Helander and Leon Balogun injured along with long-term casualty Nikola Katic, 24-year-old Simpson will make his second start for the Light Blues and his Old Firm debut, having also made three substitute appearances since his move to Ibrox from Bournemouth on February 1.

Including Simpson, Gerrard has made just two changes to the side that started last weekend’s Scottish Cup quarter-final against St Johnstone, with Roofe also back in for the fifth and final derby of the season, meaning Ianis Hagi is on the bench.

With Allan McGregor between the posts this afternoon and making his 41st appearance of 2020/21, a back four of captain James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Simpson and Borna Barisic will feature in front of the club’s number one.

In midfield Steven Davis, Glen Kamara and Joe Aribo will provide energy and creativity and they be looking to support the front three of Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos and Roofe. Joining Hagi on the Gers’ bench today are goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin, Leon King, Greg Stewart, Scott Wright, Cedric Itten and Jermain Defoe.
