Thelo Aasgaard: I Will Always Strive For More

THELO Aasgaard says he will always strive for more as he embraces his first season as a Rangers player.

With a first goal for the club at the weekend, Aasgaard admits it has been a frustrating start on a personal and team level but hopes it can be a fresh start under new head coach Danny Röhl.

Speaking to the media at this evening’s pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s UEFA Europa League match against SK Brann, Aasgaard said: “It has only been a couple of days, but he has really tried to give us as much information, without overloading us, so we are going to try and take that onto the pitch tomorrow.

“He wants us to play with great intensity, on and off the ball, he mentioned his pressing style of play, and I think I can use my presence, but also take my calmness on the ball and try and work my way into his system.

“It will take a while for us all to be fully prepared in a match as the perfect team that he wants but I am really looking forward to that process.

“With the start of the season it has been tough and of course it is disappointing to have this start, but I think individually I am always going to strive for more and hopefully the last game was a little bit more of what I can do.”

When asked about the pressures of playing at Rangers, the midfielder continued: “It has been intense, and the demand is very high but so it should be when you are playing for such a big club.

“It is an honour, so I will never step on the pitch and not be grateful to wear the shirt and just try and be myself. The pressure comes but I have enjoyed embracing it at times and I am sure we have got plenty more positive days to come.

“I got told a little bit about it before I came but I just tried to embrace it and I felt like every game I have been able to deal with the pressure better and better as the games and weeks have rolled on so it is just what I am trying to continue to do and hopefully it can come out on the pitch.”

Aasgaard, who represents Norway at international level, is looking forward to tomorrow evening’s match in Brann and the opportunity to come against some familiar faces.

He continued: “I know a few of the lads who are playing for Brann so that will be exciting, but I will approach it like any other match. I always go into every game as well prepared as I can.

“I have heard a little bit about the club from players I have played with at Norway and they said it is a great atmosphere here and a great stadium, so I am really looking forward to playing here.

“We do our analysis on every team, and the new manager has gone through their principles and how they want to build up, how they want to attack our goal, so we have prepared like any other team.”
