Thomson: Concentration Must Be High

MALKY Thomson says concentration must be high as Rangers prepare for another tough Park’s Motor Group SWPL fixture against Hibernian.

Rangers host the Edinburgh side at Auchenhowie on Sunday afternoon and Thomson expects a number of aspects to be crucial during the game.

Speaking to RangersTV ahead of the match, he said: “I think it is going to be a real spectacle, given that we are going to get back on grass, which is always better for our team to play on, and Hibs are a well organised team and they compete.

“As the league is going on many teams are getting stronger and they are getting a better understanding of how each other play so it will come down to different aspects. It may come down to the speed we play or the tactics we deploy so there's lots of permutations in there.

“The last game against Hibs was the first occasion where we actually got three points with just winning 1-0 and not having the cushion of having a second or third goal. They showed resilience, focus and the concentration levels were high so again we have to make sure we are concentrating for the full 90 minutes to get the three points.”

Thomson is pleased with the strength of his squad at the moment and the flexibility it allows the coaching staff to have when it comes to approaching different challenges.

He continued: “It allows us to do two things, we have competition in the squad so every player must train at a high level in order to be in the team come a Sunday, but secondly we have versatility in the squad. That means if we do, unfortunately, lose a player through injury or whatever then there is someone there who can step up to the plate and fill that void, which is great to have.”
