Gers lost 2-0 to the Spanish side but put in a strong display at the Pinatar Arena with Thomson taking plenty of positives from the match.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, he said: “I thought we held our own, the players have taken great belief in what they achieved last season.
“Defensively we had to really be organised and I think the learning and teaching will only help us going forward. It wasn’t just our defensive display but when we did regain the ball back there were some good passages of play.
“We had limited chances to be honest and we never really created anything that would warrant us scoring as such, however that is a top team we have just encountered.
“We came through it, first and foremost with no injuries, and having learned a lot and it’ll really set us up for the season.”
New signing Jenny Danielsson got her first run out in Light Blue, while five young players also involved in the match.
Thomson was pleased the staff were able to give minutes to the whole squad as they gear up for the start of the league on Sunday.
He continued: “We just spoke to the girls there about retaining the ball and things like throw-ins and how important it is to use those moments to get control because I think anyone watching that game could see our style came through.
“The minutes were spread throughout the group, we had some young kids in there and we have a real mix of academy players and some top players.
“Jenny played 45 minutes and she has now had training sessions and is socialising with the group away from the pitch and the minutes gave her a good understanding.”
