The Light Blues were held to a 1-1 draw with Hearts at the weekend as they had to settle for a point in their battle to catch the league leaders in the title race.
Speaking to RangersTV ahead of the Old Firm clash in Airdrie the manager wants his team to use their ability to bounce back as they look to gain points on their city rivals with victory.
He said: “What this group has proven is that every game that the play in there is never a cloud that hangs over them, they never carry anything into the next week so the reaction will be as it has been in previous situations where will come back at it with a positive mindset.
“We will go and give a good account of ourselves, we will look into the performance first and foremost, and make sure that we are all diligent and do what we are meant to be doing in the moments and win the game.
“These games can go either way it doesn't matter how well you prepare it is going to come down to which team is the hungriest and wants the points.
“We have this ability to bounce back into the next game very quickly with a positive mindset, so I will be looking for that, as well as energy and enthusiasm and a real desire to win the game.”
The manager says it is important his side learn from their weekend result but as they prepare for another three-game week.
He continued: “I think it can work in our advantage, there is no time to think about it, there is a quick turnaround with three or four days in between the next four games. There is no time to dwell on anything, we just have to park it, learn from it and I think that has been a big plus this season as well.”
Thomson feels the senior players in his side will have a role to play in helping them through their situation as they look for a positive end to their campaign with two trophies still available to play for.
He added: “The players that have went through similar situations will have the knowledge of how to cope with it, but I think for the young ones in the squad it is great. It is new to them so they don't need to think too much about it, just enjoy the journey which I think they are doing and add value.
“The younger ones in the squad add the spirit, the enthusiasm and that youthfulness, the older players with more experience can bring their knowledge to it.”
Thomson also provided a positive update on his squad for Thursday night’s fixture in the final Old Firm league clash of the season.
He said: “We are in a good place, there has been a lot of hard work and graft put into the whole season on and off the pitch. If we look at Ashley and Faye who look after our physical stuff in the gym there is a lot of strength work being done. That has gradually increased and built up throughout the season, which is allowing them sustainability in terms of playing game after game, so that strength and that level of detail that has went into them early on is definitely going to pay dividends come the end of the season.”
The match kicks off at 7:00pm at the Excelsior Stadium on Thursday evening and you can watch the game live on Sky Sports.
