The Light Blues produced an emphatic 7-0 victory over Motherwell last weekend and they will be looking to collect a valuable three points this weekend after playing out a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture in November.
Speaking to the media ahead of Sunday’s top-of-the-table clash, Thomson highlighted the unity in his Gers squad: “After the Motherwell game, the team spoke about how pleased they were for each other. Prior to that, they were so gung-ho about getting the result and they were hurting before it so there's a caring element to it.
“We have experienced players and we can go right throughout the team - our two goalkeepers, Kathryn Hill, Rachel McLauchlan, Nicola Docherty, Tessel Middag, Jenny Danielsson. Those players have a duty of care and responsibility in the team and they take that very seriously when it comes to our younger element. They definitely give them an advantage and help to progress and maximise their potential within this massive club.
“The environment is great and the staff I have around me - Craig McPherson, Nicola Hardie, Ashley [Sweeney], Faye [Bennett] and our kitwoman, Heather [Renicks]. We have a strong bond with each other and we're there to be a wrap round for the players. They create the environment that allows them to flourish and play.”
Experience could prove vital in this fixture as the Gers look to continue their momentum from last weekend, with Thomson praising the contributions of both Nicola Docherty and Sam Kerr when asked ahead of Sunday’s showdown.
He continued: "[Docherty] is a team player. The draw that we had against Hearts, it sunk in with everyone and that was not just the guys that were involved in the game. It's great to have such a positive influence in Nicola Docherty in the sense that she's a real Rangers player and she wants to win for the club.
"[Sam] had a small bout of illness which was lingering for a long period there. She's now free of that and I think you can see that in her game now. She's playing with an energy which is really high and that we know Sam Kerr has got. The type of player that she is, she adds a real dynamic edge to our midfield. She can play as a No.6 or a No.10, or even out wide, and that's the type of team that we want to build. We'll find ourselves out of possession in different positions on the pitch but it won't make any difference because we know how to play.”
