AN Old Firm Derby will be held on Sunday to launch the Glasgow FA’s first venture into Scottish Women’s Football.
The showcase launch match will see Rangers take on their Glasgow rivals at Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium at 2pm.
Established in 1883, the Glasgow Football Association has organised the men’s annual City of Glasgow Cup tournament since 1887. The historic association will now add a City of Glasgow Women’s Cup as the game continues to go from strength to strength in Scotland and across Europe.
Rangers’ Women’s and Girls Football Manager, Amy McDonald, said: "We are delighted to be a part of an historic launch match for the Women’s Glasgow Cup.
Glasgow FA President Eric Riley commented: “Thanks to the committed and generous support of our sponsor Lord Willie Haughey and his company, City Facilities Management Holdings (UK) Ltd since 2010, the Glasgow FA has played an increasingly valued role in the sporting life of the City.
During this period, the Glasgow FA have provided the platform for the children and youth of the City to participate in a range of annual events including the Glasgow Futsal tournament the Primary School Football Festival, the Under 11 Football Festival and the Under 16 Development League, not to mention the Glasgow Cup itself.
"We are delighted to now provide the platform for the talented women of our city to display and develop their careers in this new competition."
