Tom Lawrence: On Course For Full Speed

TOM LAWRENCE feels he is on course to get up to full speed, after making his full return from injury.

The midfielder has started the Gers’ last three league outings including the most recent 2-0 victory over St Mirren on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to the official Rangers website ahead of the Light Blues trip to face Hearts in their next outing tomorrow night, the Welshman says his fitness levels are constantly improving with his run of games, he commented:

“I felt really good when I came back at first and then maybe the two games in such a short period didn't help me out as such. I feel back to my best now fitness wise and hopefully my quality shows with that.

“You can go do all the training in the world and let me tell you the manager's training is hard as well. It is the difference in matches, match fitness is completely different to training and that is what I am trying to get back.

“The manager has been good with me about that, he is just trying to get me into a good rhythm. I said before the game that I feel like I am in a good place, I feel like I am getting back to the top of my fitness and hopefully the performance showed that.”

The 29-year-old operated in a slightly deeper role in the weekend’s win and believes it is a position he in comfortable playing in given his time down south.

He continued: “It is a little bit deeper than what I have been used to in the past, but if the manager asks me to do it I am more than capable of doing that. I have done it a few times when I have been playing at Derby so I know the role and it was really enjoyable actually.”

“We always aim to have a high tempo to the game. I actually thought that we did it well. I don't know what the manager seen it from the side but he was happy in the changing room after the game so that is the main thing.”

Lawrence admits it was a testing time out with injury but hopes there is more to come from himself as he targets a fourth Scottish Premiership start in a row tomorrow evening in the capital.

He added: “I had a long period out which was very frustrating. You think you're coming back to a good place and then you get another injury. It is frustrating but it is football at the end of the day and I've done everything I can to get back to a good level now and hopefully I can play as many games as I can.

“Hopefully there is a lot more [to come], game by game and training by training, hopefully I can show my best football then.”
