Tom Lawrence: Squad Must Take Belief From European Performances

TOM LAWRENCE says Rangers have to take belief from their European results as they look to overcome their rivals tomorrow lunchtime.

The Light Blues will make the short trip across the city in the penultimate showdown between the teams this season following their progression to the Europa League last eight on Thursday evening.

Speaking to the media in the press conference ahead of the league match, the midfielder commented: “The belief in the group is actually really good, I think we have shown in Europe we can put on top performances, but we need to carry that out now for Sunday.

“We have to take every pride in every game we play in.

“It is Celtic on Sunday and that is the focus.

“What to expect? A tough game, it always is.

“It is good to have our fans back in the stadium but we go there with one focus and that is to win the game.”

The 31-year-old has spoken of the Gers’ memorable triumph over Fenerbahce, saying the team must now recover well to shift attention back to league duties.

He continued: “We are in a good place, it is a weird one I don't think I have ever been so happy after losing a game 2-0, but getting through was what mattered.

“Easier to recover after that? I don't know I can't remember the last time I played 120 minutes so you would have to ask them lads, but we have got all the facilities here to recover well.

“Obviously it plays a part but from us, there are no excuses going into Sunday, we are ready for that.

“Thursday night is forgotten about; all our focus is on Sunday.

“The lads who played a lot of minutes will be recovering and it is for us to train well and everything is on Sunday.”

Following the conclusion of the derby Lawrence will join up with the Wales squad for the first time since 2021, as he shared his excitement about linking up with his nation once again for their first camp of the year.

He added: “The manager rang me, to be fair I have kept in contact with him since he took over there.

“I could have gone a few times but injuries and little niggles have stopped me, so now it was the right time for me to be back in the fold and I am looking forward to it.

“Just looking forward to being back with Wales and see what that brings.

“Injuries haven't helped that situation.

“I was out for a long time in my first year then the situation before that so it is just good to be back.”
