The 22-year-old has today made the move from Belgian outfit Westerlo as the Gers seek to bolster their squad in a key area ahead of the second half of the season.
The full-back is a product of the Genk academy but cut his teeth in the ranks at Westerlo, where he made over 70 appearances.
Speaking to RangersTV in his unveiling interview, a delighted Rommens said: “I’m very happy to be here. It’s a dream to play for a club like this, and I only have positive feelings.
“Everyone knows Rangers, and when a club like this is interested in you, then you want to be part of this club. The most important thing is that they believe in me, and that’s why I have come here.
“It’s a big club with a lot of fans, and they always play in Europe. It was very easy for me to make this choice.
“You want to be part of the history in a couple of years. You want to be part of it, and I want to do my best for this club.”
On how we would describe himself as a player and his relative experience at the age of 22, Rommens continued: “I’m a left-back, and I always give 100%. I go down the line a lot of times, and I can both attack and defend.
“I’m 22, and I have played a lot of games in the first division in Belgium. It was the right time for me to make this step to a bigger club, and I’m happy to be here.
“I’m very excited. If you can play in front of 50,000 fans for every home game, then it’s a big motivation to give everything to the supporters.”
With so much still to play for this season, Rommens is ready to go and earn the opportunity to showcase his quality.
The 22-year-old also detailed his conversations with the club and the advice he received from his head coach, who was part of the Gers coaching staff just last season, at Westerlo.
He added: “When did I first hear Rangers were interested? It was a couple of months ago.
“We had some talks with the Sporting Director and the Head Coach. They were good, and I was convinced from the first moment to come here.
“I spoke with Issame Charai, who was my coach at Westerlo. He told me a lot of good things about this club and also the expectations. He advised me to make this choice.
“I had good conversations with Danny Röhl. It was about how the team played, how he thinks I’m a good fit for this team. It was all good things, and it was positive talks.
“It’s very important. If you feel that he believes in you, then you have more confidence to play. It’s very important that the head coach believes in you.”
