The Belgian full-back, signed from Westerlo last month, replaced Jayden Meghoma in the second half of the 5-1 win and teed up Oliver Antman in stoppage time.
His arrival adds depth in the full-back position, with Meghoma, still only 19, having impressed hugely in his performances this season.
Speaking to the media ahead of tomorrow’s Scottish Cup clash against Queen’s Park, Rommens said of his first Gers appearance: “It was wonderful to make my debut. It has been so long.
“It was a little bit frustrating, but I had something in my back, so we had to manage it. We managed it well, and now I’m focused on getting minutes.
“It was a good game to get my first minutes. The team did well, so it was easier to come in being ahead than behind. It was a good performance.
“I’m trying to do my best, and I hope I can help the team to achieve our goals this season.
“We have a very good squad. We have very good players, and everyone competes for a spot, which is a good thing. We push ourselves and each other, and I think it’s good.”
Rommens also detailed his discussions with Head Coach, Danny Röhl, who he says was a factor in his decision to make the move to Glasgow.
The full-back has been capped at youth level by Belgium, and although the move to Scotland may bring about increased international recognition, the 22-year-old says his full focus is on helping Rangers achieve their ambitions this season.
He added: “I spoke with [Röhl] before I came here, in terms of how the team plays and how he sees me in the team.
“He told me that this club is very ambitious and we want to achieve big goals. It’s why I came here. I also want to win things, and I think it was a good match.
“I hope to bring energy to the team and help the team achieve our goals. I hope I can make an impact this season.
“Will the move boost my international chances? I’m not thinking about that at the moment. I’m just thinking about getting more minutes here and doing my best.
“It’s a good step for my career. In Belgium, we didn’t play for the highest [position] in the league, so that has changed.
“It’s a good step away from my comfort zone. It will help me develop as a person and as a player.”
