The U19s side were narrowly edged out by Ajax in Amsterdam last week, producing an encouraging second half display that the Gers will be keen to build upon.
TEAM NEWS
David McCallum confirmed that Alex Lowry is continuing his recovery from injury and will not be involved for the visit of Napoli, telling the media in his pre-match press conference:
"He’s not in contention for any game time at the moment, but any time we have seen him or had conversations around him it seems to be quite positive."
LAST TIME OUT
The Gers were unfortunate not to take something from the game against Ajax last week, with McCallum’s side creating several goalscoring opportunities in the second half.
All three goals in the game arrived in the first half, with the Dutch side racing out to a 2-0 goal lead before Lewis MacKinnon halved the deficit after getting on the end of Robbie Ure’s knock down.
The away side had the chance to equalise from the spot after the interval when Ure was fouled inside the penalty area, but Charlie Lindsay cruelly struck the post with the subsequent penalty kick.
OUR FORM
The Young Gers have been in fine goalscoring fettle this season and they will be hoping to harness the positive aspects from last weekend’s display against Ajax.
McCallum’s side were last in action on the domestic front back over two weeks ago, running out 2-0 winners against Gretna 2008 away from home.
The victory made it four wins in a row for the Light Blues, which included an emphatic 7-0 victory over Dumbarton in the SPFL Trust Trophy.
OPPOSITION FOCUS
Napoli suffered a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in their UEFA Youth League opener last week, with the Reds netting a 67th minute winner after being pegged back by their Italian counterparts eight minutes earlier.
The Partenopei have a storied history of producing Italian greats – including Lorenzo Insigne and 2006 Ballon d’Or winner Fabio Cannavaro – and the club hold high hopes for their current U19s captain Gennaro Iaccarino, who netted from the spot in last week’s clash with Liverpool.
18-year-old Antonio Pesce also caught the eye in last week’s Youth League opener, with the forward winning the penalty in which his side converted from in the second half.
