Vaclav Cerny: I'm Delighted But It's Not Over Yet

VACLAV CERNY was delighted to be the two-goal hero against Fenerbahce but he insists the job is not over yet.

The winger netted a double in Istanbul to add to Cyriel Dessers early opener to give Barry Ferguson’s side a 3-1 away win.

Cerny says the Light Blues showed their togetherness in a famous win in the round of 16 tie.

Speaking to RangersTV, he said: “It was a massive win, but we know we are only halfway there.

“It was the perfect opening game for us in the tie and I think we deserved to win the game and now we want to close it next week.

“The early goal was massive and we wanted to start on the front foot and set the tone and we did that.

“It was a great start but we knew a tough part would come but we had to stick together so it was a brilliant team effort.

“We created a perfect position going into next week.”

Dessers saw two other goals ruled out for narrow offside calls early in the second half.

Cerny knows those tight decisions could have impacted the squad, although he praised the players for responding in the right manner to secure the victory.

He added: “The toughest thing about the two goals being called off, they take too long to decide. You just have to focus again and we did that.

“We showed what we are capable of and that’s what has to drive us for the future.

“We have to recover now and be ready for next week and we are in a great position.”
