The Light Blues carry a 4-2 lead into the tie following last week’s first-leg in Germany, and van Bronckhorst wants his team to pick up where they left off.
Speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference, he said: “As a player you want to be involved in European cup competition because it’s good for your development as a player, as a team and for the exposure of the club – those are important things. It’s a difficult stage because there are so many good teams in Europe, you have to be at the top of your game throughout the whole competition.
“We were at the top of our game last week, to proceed tomorrow we have to have the same performance. It’s not an easy competition, we have to be ready and prepared, but you also have to enjoy it because you’re going to play against some good positions especially when you have come far in the competition. The quality you face will only get better.”
Van Bronckhorst reflected on his time being Rangers manager so far and insists that games like this spur the team on to keep winning.
He continued: “For me, it’s a big honour to be the manager of this club, having had a history as a player. I had a really good time here when I was here. It is a job where I have to prepare my players so that we are playing at the best level that we can.
“With the magnitude of this club, we want to be winning prizes. That’s what we all want and that’s my goal with this club and team. The pressure is always there, I’ve felt pressure throughout my career as a player and a coach, I think that it keeps you sharp. It is also something I cherish because it means that you are the manager of a big club.
“We will give 100% in the things you have to do, to make sure that we are getting the performances in and successful for this club.
The manager recognised the threats Dortmund will bring, but he insists that the backing of the fans will have a positive impact on the match.
He added: “The players they have are all international, experienced with a good coach. They played really well at the weekend, so I think that their confidence is good at the moment, they’re also a team who knows what is needed to perform.
“We gave ourselves a good position and we know their strengths and weaknesses, and with the backing of our fans tomorrow in another beautiful European night at Ibrox – we have to make sure that we do everything to get to the next round.”
