Vignal To Vacate Role

GREGORY VIGNAL will today vacate his role as Joint Head Coach of Rangers Women’s first team. Everyone at the club is grateful for Gregory’s commitment and energy during his time as a coach over the last few years.

Since re-joining the club, which he played for in the mid 2000’s under Alex McLeish, Gregory has undertaken a variety of roles in the Academy, before moving last year to the role of Women’s first-team Head Coach. Gregory has played a pivotal role in the creation of the new full-time women’s professional team, the first of its kind in Scotland, and has ensured a smooth transition for the Women’s programme as it integrated into the high performance football department at the training ground.

Vignal said “Following discussion with the club we have reached the mutual decision not to extend my contract which is due to expire. I would like to thank everyone at the club especially the Manager, Steven Gerrard, Sporting Director, Ross Wilson, and Head of Academy, Craig Mulholland. I would also like to thank all of the players and staff I have worked with and most importantly the fans for all of your support over the last three years.

“It has been an honour and privilege for me and my family to represent this fabulous institution which is Rangers FC. I would like to wish all the best to the club for a successful 2020/21”

Sporting Director, Ross Wilson commented “Our Women’s programme is important and an integral part of the football department, evidenced in our pioneering and innovative approach in our move to become a full-time professional team.

“Gregory has contributed significantly in this transition and since I joined the club he has shown enormous enthusiasm throughout. We introduced Malky Thomson to the womens’ programme in January and Malky will ensure a seamless transition for the squad.

“I wish Gregory the very best of luck in his next chapter and I am pleased that our paths have crossed at Rangers and we have been able to contribute to his journey.”
