This afternoon, Goldson will line-up at the National Stadium for his first cup final as a Rangers player – indeed, only Allan McGregor and Steven Davis are previous winners of the competition with the club.
Goldson concedes it’s a boost to have the duo in the squad for their experience – though he knows it’s about the whole squad performing on the day.
Speaking to RangersTV in an interview you can watch in the build-up to this afternoon’s clash, he explained: “It’s difficult for them as they will want to prepare in their own way and be ready for the game, but it is good to have people that have been there and done it before.
“I think in Old Firm games you need everyone to perform and everyone to perform to their maximum so if we can all give 100 per-cent and all perform the way we can, then hopefully we can come back with a winners’ medal.”
The Light Blues’ last match ended in frustration, with Aberdeen coming from two goals down to leave Gers with only a draw at Pittodrie.
“It was disappointing,” Goldson continued, “and I think it was disappointing because of how we performed in the first half and being in such control of the game to obviously throw away a lead.
“I think if you look at the course of the season so far that we have been performing really well and we are still in a really good position.
“It is difficult [to take positives from Aberdeen] – especially for me personally. I probably blame myself for the goal looking back on it, but no, we are human and we move on, prepare and do everything right for this weekend.
“But I thought the boys were brilliant for that first half. I think it could have been a lot more than it was – but conceding that goal on half-time changed the game completely.”
Thoughts of Wednesday are now behind Goldson and his teammates, with the central defender admitting the huge will for success from the Rangers support is something that is a real driver for him.
He added: “I’ve felt it since I have been here and I think that’s why the fans here are so passionate as we haven’t won for so long.
“But we have a great chance on Sunday to put that right and end that wait and hopefully make a lot of people happy.”
