Despite a strong start to the league campaign for Gers, the defender insists they’ll take nothing for granted ahead of the opening game on April 4.
Speaking to RangersTV this week, she said: “Everyone has come back to training this week in such a good mood and it is just great to be kicking the ball about again.
“It has felt like a long few months waiting but we are stoked to be back.
“We are obviously sitting in a decent position but a lot of teams have had some good signings and everyone has been out for a little while so it is almost like a reset.
“We can't go in thinking we are going to play exactly the same as when we left out.
“While it is a good position to be in we can’t bank on the fact that we had a good first seven games to carry us through the rest of the season.”
Joining Gers in October, Westrup has settled seamlessly into life in Glasgow.
A regular in Malky Thomson’s side, the American-born centre-back captained Gers for two matches against Motherwell and Glasgow City before the winter break.
She continued: “I love the Scottish culture in general, I have family from here so I have been around it pretty much my whole life but the girls and coaches have been very welcoming.
“They do a great job of keeping in touch even although we couldn’t see each other and it’s a really great environment to be in.
“I was very humbled and grateful to captain the team. I am not a person who really needs the armband to be vocal, I talk regardless but I was very grateful that they had enough trust in me to give me that responsibility.
“You really can't get me to stop talking on the field, I just love the game so much but I don't mind being the person directing people.
“Traditionally my position typically sees most of the field so as centre-back and even a goalkeeper you should probably be the ones talking more so the fact that I do that I think is just required of my position.”
With fellow centre-back Chantelle Swaby making the move from America to join Rangers in January, Westrup is looking forward to building a partnership with her on and off the pitch.
She continued: “We have some mutual friends so it has been good to talk about who we know and where she went to school and I can't wait to start playing with her and actually build that partnership at the back.
“She went to a great college and had a stint with Sky Blue in the professional league so that's all great experiences to bring in and another familiar accent around the team which is always good.”
