Women's International Preview

RANGERS have a number of players away on international duty at present, with several matches in various nations taking place.

Here is our preview of who is involved and when they are in action:

Nicola Docherty & Mia McAulay – Scotland

  • Morocco v Scotland – Friday, 24 October – International Friendly – Kick-off 19:30

  • Scotland v Switzerland – Tuesday, 28 October – International Friendly – Kick-off 19:30

Two Gers players will be involved in the Scotland national team squad for their upcoming friendly outings in the first break of the season.

Melissa Andreatta’s side will head to Morocco to take on the African nation before hosting European side Switzerland at Dunfermline’s East End Park, with the duo hopeful of adding to their caps for the A squad after McAulay made her debut back in May.

Alice Griffiths – Wales

  • Wales v Australia – Saturday, 25 October – International Friendly – Kick-off 14:00

  • Wales v Poland – Tuesday, 28 October – International Friendly – Kick-off 19:45

Rangers will also be represented in the Wales national team squad over the break with summer signing Alice Griffiths amongst the group for their respective friendly matches.

Fresh off the back of her first career goal against Hamilton at the weekend, the midfielder will link up with her nation as they meet up for the first time since the European Championships in the summer.

Telma Ivarsdottir – Iceland

  • Northern Ireland v Iceland – Nations League Play-Off First Leg – Friday, 24 October – Kick-off 19:00

  • Iceland v Northern Ireland – Nations League Play-Off Second Leg – Tuesday, 28 October – Kick-off 19:00

The goalkeeper will link up with Iceland for their Nations League play off double header against Northern Ireland during the break.

Fresh off her league debut for the club, the shot stopper’s country will look to preserve their status in Group B of the competition by overcoming their opponents over two games.

Quinty Sabajo – Suriname

Quinty will join up with the Suriname national team for the first time for their week-long training camp in the Netherlands during the break.

Returning to her homeland and place of birth, the midfielder will be able to represent the nation due to the allegiance of her father for upcoming matches in the future.

Li Mengwen – China

Li is also currently on international duty in her homeland and due to return in mid-November.

The defender joined the Light Blues at the beginning of last month as a free agent and made her debut in the capital against Hibs, she will be keen to build on her minutes when she links back up with the squad.

Eilidh Austin, Fallon Connolly-Jackson & Jodi McLeary – Scotland Under-23’s

  • Scotland Under-23’s v Sweden Under-23’s – Thursday, 23 October – International Friendly – Kick-off 19:00

  • Italy Under-23’s v Scotland Under-23’s – Monday, 27 October – International Friendly – Kick-off 13:30

Three Rangers players will join up with Scotland at Under-23’s level for their pair of friendly matches across the break.

The Scots will firstly head to Raith’s Stark’s Park to take on Sweden before jetting to Florence to take on Italy on Monday afternoon.

Austin made her debut for the 23’s at the back end of 2024, with McLeary a regular feature for the side, captaining them on occasion. Summer signing Connolly-Jackson received her first call-up for the age group at the end of last season with the players all hopeful of further minutes across the outings.

Laura Berry, Sophie Townsley & Sophie Black – Scotland Under-19’s

  • Scotland Under-19’s v Slovakia Under-19’s – Thursday, 23 October - International Challenge Match – Kick-off 16:00

  • Scotland Under-19’s v Slovakia Under-19’s – Sunday, 26 October – International Challenge Match – Kick-off 12 noon

Three Rangers youngsters will be part of Gary Doctor’s Scotland squad for their respective friendly matches across the next four days.

The squad will travel to Bratislava to contest the fixtures against Slovakia in preparation UEFA European Championship qualifiers in November. Berry, fresh off her brace in the last SWPL outing will look to gain more gametime with loan pair Townsley and Black also looking for more experience at youth international level.

May Cruft & Jess Pegram – England Under-19’s

  • England Under-19’s v Estonia Under-19’s – Wednesday, 22 October – U19 European Championships Qualifier – Kick-off 15:00

  • England Under-19’s v Greece Under-19’s – Saturday, 25 October – U19 European Championships Qualifier – Kick-off 11:00

  • Austria Under-19’s v England Under-19’s – Tuesday, 28 October – U19 European Championships Qualifier – Kick-off 11:00

The club will also be represented in England’s youth setup with both May Cruft and summer signing Jess Pegram earning call-ups.

Cruft, who signed her first pro deal with the Gers in the summer, will be in the age group for the first time, whilst Pegram will be present once again having impressed for the Light Blues having won the club’s player of the month for September during her time in Glasgow so far.

It’s round one qualifying for Lauren Smith’s side as England compete for one of the seven places in next summer’s tournament, which will be held in Bosnia & Herzegovina in July.
