The Gers can qualify for the knockout stages of the competition if they better Porto’s result, who take on BSC Young Boys in Switzerland on matchday five.
Davis believes reaching the final 32 would mark a significant step for Steven Gerrard’s men and isn’t worried about the famous De Kuip atmosphere – which he experienced with Northern Ireland in October.
Speaking to the media in Rotterdam he said: “I don’t think we will take our eye off the ball.
“So there is still work to be done and hopefully we can replicate the performance tomorrow night that we have shown already in the group games, and hopefully that will be enough to get us the result.
“I think we can take a lot of confidence from the performance we have shown to date away from home as well.
“It is about continuing to improve and progress. It (qualifying) would certainly be a big step in the right direction.
“Since the qualifying games at the end of June/start of July, it is a journey we have thoroughly enjoyed testing ourselves against teams of this quality and we want that to continue for as long as possible. We are determined to see that through in the final two games.”
Davis eventually elected to sign for Aston Villa to begin his footballing career but was on trial with Rangers, the club he has supported since he was a boy, while Advocaat was at the reins in Glasgow.
He continued: “Certainly I have good memories of that side and a lot of top quality players he brought to the club at that stage.
