The 19-year-old full-back has been an ever-present for the Lanarkshire side this campaign after joining on a season-long loan back in September.
The side initially set the pace in League One after a strong start to the season, but a points deduction amid off-field issues has sent Accies sliding down the division.
Still, Hutton has been keen to block out the external noise and do his utmost to deliver for himself, his teammates and the club’s supporters.
Speaking to the official Rangers website, the teenager reflected on a campaign where he feels his development has continued apace: “I knew [Hamilton] were a big club with quite a lot of history behind them. I also knew they were struggling behind closed doors, but it’s been great since I’ve come in.
“I played with the Under-19s last season against League One and Championship opposition, so I knew what it would be like when I came in.
“It’s hard most weeks, and there are different styles; teams who try to play football and teams who don’t.
“It’s a higher standard to what I personally expected. There are a lot of good players in the league.
“Playing in men’s football has improved my understanding of the game.
“It’s been tough at times, like it has been against Inverness when we’ve played them, but it’s been good.
“Everyone is tight as a group in the dressing room. There are a lot of funny guys and a lot of patter kicking about.
“There’s a lot of experience in the dressing room. It’s helped me a lot. Often, they’ll give me small advice if there is something that they see I’m not doing quite as well. I try to take on everything that they give me.”
Hutton has played virtually every minute for Hamilton in their League One campaign, making 15 appearances across the league, KDM Evolution Trophy and Scottish Cup.
It is exactly what he set out to do when he departed on loan back in September, recalling a brief conversation with then Head Coach, Russell Martin, after making his first Rangers appearance in pre-season in a friendly clash with Club Brugge at Ibrox.
He continued: “It was a great experience. It was my first time playing at Ibrox, albeit it was a friendly, and it was great. They were very high-level opposition, so coming into that game, it was a very fast tempo.
“I had a few small chats [before going on loan]. There weren’t any big chats, but the old Head Coach thought I needed minutes in men’s football to progress my game a little bit.
“I remember the first game that I played was against East Kilbride, and I could feel myself tired and leggy.
“I hadn’t played many games before. Coming in, I wanted to take it game by game, and I feel as if my fitness has gotten better and better.
“I feel that I can improve a lot more as the games go on, understanding different opposition and what the league is like.
“I speak to Brian Gilmour (loans manager) most weeks and even try to get back to the club myself to be in and around the building.”
Hutton was brought to Hamilton by former manager John Rankin, father of Under-17s midfielder Luca, who departed the club in November.
Rankin offered an insight into the process which secured the youngster’s signature on a season-long loan and has no doubt that the full-back, with his abundant physical strengths, will forge a strong career in the game.
He said of Hutton: “I worked in the academy at Hearts for a period of time, and Zander was always a player who was athletic, strong and keen on the eye.
“I knew him for a long time, and we played Rangers in pre-season at the training ground where Zander came on and did well.
“We had to be patient because Russell [Martin] had him as part of his plans. We actually tried to get him two games before we did, and I was delighted when we were able to get him to the club.
“His main strength is his athleticism. We actually had a natural right-back at the club, but we wanted to move him into the middle of the pitch to provide a bit more bite.
“Naturally, you would look for a midfielder, but when Zander became a possibility, it was always going to happen.
“His enthusiasm on the first day he walked in and his energy to go and train was infectious. He didn’t surprise me at all, and it was just a case of encouraging him to bring a lot of them to the game.
“He had a lot of good deliveries into the penalty box, and we didn’t capitalise the way we should on a lot of them, but the fact he was in those areas will stand him in good stead in his career. He’s only 19 and has a long career ahead of him."
On the stage he feels Hutton currently occupies in his development towards the Gers first-team, Rankin continued: “He’s beginning to learn what men’s football is.
“We know he’s not the finished article yet, but we wanted to try and help him on that pathway to that finished article.
“I don’t think you ever are as a player – and that’s the hard part – and we wanted to help him on that pathway towards the philosophy that Rangers have in their first-team.”
There has been plenty of noise off the pitch at the Lanarkshire outfit this season, which eventually bled onto the pitch when the club were hit with a points deduction in League One.
It has forced the side to reshape their ambitions after initially riding high at the summit of the division, but Hutton insists his focus as a player hasn’t wavered.
He said: “We’ve tried to stay as tight as possible as a group because there’s nothing we can do about it.
“We try to focus every week in training and try to win every game.
“No matter where you are, there is always something going on in the background, but that’s out of your control as a player.
“What you can control are the games on a Saturday or Sunday and making sure that you win those games and give fans something to enjoy.”
